Hiking 47:05 [3] 3.1 mi (15:11 / mi)

A loop around Wash Park to get out of the house. It's been a crazy few days here. I had decided to invite my ex-husband out to Denver from NC to spend Thanksgiving with us and that had caused some anxiety leading up to the holidays. Was it the right thing to do? Was there going to be way too much drama? Due to a series of misunderstandings, hurt feelings, the kids getting older and seeing their dad in a different light, he and the kids had been estranged for about 6 years, and I thought this would be a last ditch effort to see if those relationships could be fixed. He's down on his luck, so inviting him out also meant that I paid for everything, so it was not an easy decision.

And, I'm happy to say, it has all worked out pretty well. The first night was awkward and stilted, but everything eased up after a while, and they have all spent the last few days together, seeing the sights of Denver. I stayed out of it after Thanksgiving, thinking it would be best for them to be together on their own. Seeing my kids interacting with their dad makes me very happy and that's what I am thankful for this year.

Running (C25K) 40:14 intensity: (32:14 @2) + (8:00 @3) 3.1 mi (12:59 / mi)

Week 1 #2

This was a little more difficult because the park loop was covered in snow. And the temperature was 20˚. So yay for me for even getting out there instead of staying inside a nice warm house.

I was especially happy because I figured out how to play my podcast while still using the C25K app.

+1 for Boris!

Hiking 47:03 [2] 3.1 mi (15:11 / mi)

Today's Wash Park loop was a walk with my friend, Lisa, who needed to get out of the house for a while. It has turned decidedly colder, getting ready for the the T-day storm scheduled to begin tonight.

Running (C25K) 40:49 intensity: (32:49 @2) + (8:00 @3) 3.1 mi (13:10 / mi)

Week 1 #1

I finally realized that I need a laid out plan that tells me what to do to ensure a better rate of exercise days. And, the last time I was back East, I went out with Marit and Bob to do their Couch to 5K plan for the day, and that seemed pretty handy. So, I looked into it, and it seems like it should work for me. It's an app that let's you listen to your music but during the music playing, the exercise lady tells you when to run and when to walk. Which works out perfectly because I can't really see my watch without my reading glasses, which I don't wear when I'm running/walking. Plus, it's kind of dark now, so that makes it even worse. So all I have to do is do my loop around Wash Park and every so often, the lady tells me to run, so I do.

Today was my first day, and it worked out just fine. My hip didn't hurt so much either. I think my problem there is that I would go from doing nothing to running a longish time, and that might not have been the best plan. So this run/walk approach might help me ease into it without hurting anything. I'll still go to the doctor next week just for a knee/hip check-up, but it might turn out that I can manage this just fine.

Cycling 1:14:32 [3]

The last of the really nice days, for a while at least. Thanksgiving weekend is going to stay down in the 20s and 30s, so I thought I'd take advantage of the nice weather and get out for a bike ride. It felt good after a weekend of lots of choring and catching up on orienteering stuff.
