Note

I woke up feeling a little better, but my headache hadn't gone away, and I quickly became tired again. So, after a delicious breakfast of waffles and a walk with Annie and SF, I headed back to Denver. A bust of a weekend with no skiing, but so it goes.

I rested throughout the day (watching my man, Peyton, get back in the game!), and by the evening, I felt much better. Hopefully, that was the end of that!

Note

Drove to Laramie to get Annie and a few days of skiing, but after I got there, my body kind of broke down. We took Annie for a walk, and when we got back, this wave of exhaustion washed over me. Poor Mikell, he was trying to talk to me, and I could barely keep my eyes open. So no skiing for me. I stayed home and slept off and on until dinner. I also developed a low grade headache with occasional stabs of pain. Lovely.

Ate dinner and then went straight to bed.

Hiking 39:09 [2]

It took a bit to get used to the cold again. But today was a beautiful, sunshiney day and I had to get out. So, after unpacking and picking up some groceries, I headed for a walk in Wash Park. The trail is now officially very dangerous. A 5" layer of undulating ice with a dusting of snow on top. Not sure when that is going to melt, so I stuck to the roads.

Note

The trip back was much, much better than the trip over. All of our flights were on time and our luggage made it. It was a full day of travel, got home about 10:30 pm, took a quick shower and collapsed into bed.

What a great trip that was! So much fun to go back to a city I love, and to spend time with my children. It's interesting to see how different they have become, from their earlier selves and from each other.

Walking 1:00:00 [2]

Last day in London. First up was going back to Finsbury Park to return the Arsenal ticket cards to the ticket broker. Then on to the British Museum! I love this museum and knew that it was a "must do" on this trip. No one else was ready to go when I was, so I was on my own...which was kind of nice. I love my kids, of course, but I do enjoy my alone time.

I spent 4 hours roaming around the museum. So many fascinating things to see...the Rosetta Stone, panels from the Parthenon, Egyptian mummies, etc. Although, this time around, I did have a little bit of an icky feeling. Part of me was asking, "Don't these panels from the Parthenon really belong to Greece?" and "Shouldn't the Egyptian mummies really be in Egypt?" I understand how it was back in the day, when explorers took what they found, but it seems like, over time, they should make their way back to the country of origin.

After the museum, I walked down to Soho, through Chinatown, and over to Piccadilly Circus. A quick visit to Fortnum & Mason just to ogle the goods, and a nice tea break in a book store, and then home again to pack.

Walking 1:00:00 [2]

Today we went to Buckingham Palace to watch the changing of the guard, and then on to the Tower of London. I had seen both before, but it was nice to go back again. Next was a Thames cruise back to Westminster...beautiful to see the London skyline from a different angle.

A quick stop in a pub, and then home again.

Week 3 #3

I finally finished Week 3. I went for a morning run to Finsbury Park to collect some tickets for the Arsenal game tonight. It was a sunny morning (finally!), and there a lot of people out running and playing in the parks. A lot of dads with their kids, which was nice to see.

Walking 1:00:00 [2]

Today was kind of a bust. We had a full list of items... Westminster Abbey, the London Eye, the Globe Theater, etc., but it appeared that everyone else in London had the same idea. It was a sea of people. Plus we got a late start since I had to get the tickets in the morning. So we just wandered around Paddington and Baker St. for awhile and then headed home to get ready for the game. I didn't go, just the kids, but I did experience the crowds of soccer fans streaming towards the stadium. I got plenty of updates and pictures from the game. Graham said it was the best day of his life.
