Note

After the craziest two weeks at work, where I stayed at work about 10 -12 hours a day, I'm on my way to the Italy 5-Days in the Dolomites and then the French 5-Days in the French Alps. I'm traveling with Brooke, JP, and Charlie S. and am so ready for a vacation!

A bit of a slow start though, with a 6 hour layover at JFK. But I found a way to spend my time:

An inauspicious training day. I was supposed to run the 5K that was the culmination of one of my running groups. I thought I would try it even though my hamstring was not healed 100%, but as I walked down the stairs of the stadium to get my packet, I could tell that my hamstring was far less than 100%. So, the finally-responsible part of me realized that running a race today that didn't mean anything to me was probably foolish, so I picked up my packet and went home.

Later, after cooking some food and baking a cake for our "Celebrate Don" party that night, I went out for a short bike ride before we had to leave for Mom's. Well, it became a much shorter bike ride after some kind of stinging insect flew into my helmet and frantically tried to get out again, stinging me three times on the way out.

I stopped so suddenly, I almost fell over but remembered to unclip at the very last second. I took off my helmet and examined it very thoroughly to make sure the bug had, indeed, escaped. By then, my forehead felt like it was on fire. So, I turned around and headed home so I could put some ice on it and take some anti-histamine to try to keep the pain and swelling down.

It did swell and, over the course of the evening, all of the swelling moved down to my eye and forced it half closed. I'm hoping that it will all get better today (Sunday)...we'll see.
