Orienteering 59:43 [3] 4.3 km (13:54 / km) +113m 12:17 / km

QOC Royal Romp. Brown-Y. 4.0km

This went better than yesterday. The navigation was easier because the features were more distinct, which also translated to a lot of climbing. My legs felt tired at the beginning, so I was a bit worried after taking a peek at the course on the way to #1. But I decided that none of the potential route choices around the climb would benefit me, so I committed to just going up and over everything, and to just keep moving. That seemed to help because I just went on the straight line to everything and I didn't have any problems. I was just a little low on #7, but I saw the control so it was just a matter of getting to it.

This weekend turned out to be better than expected. It was so nice to talk to so many friends, and the orienteering was a lot of fun. I did better than I thought I would, so that's always a nice feeling. I think all of my time spent in the Pine Grove area over the years helped a little bit. Now I just need to work on getting to more QOC events this spring.

Orienteering 59:35 [3] 4.59 km (12:59 / km) +68m 12:05 / km

QOC Royal Romp. Brown-Y 4.0km.

This went pretty well. I completely misread the contours at #4, thinking it was on the side of a hill versus at the top. Once I figured out my mistake, I went right to it. Argh!

I also messed up at #7 -- I was looking down the wrong reentrant. I should have checked the direction on my compass! Of course!

I felt like I was moving pretty well, but did fall quite a lot. On the way down on one of the falls, I saw a branch stump heading right for my face! Yikes. But I managed to turn just in time so it hit my shoulder instead. It still hurt.

Hiking 32:04 [3] 1.55 mi (20:42 / mi) +17m 20:00 / mi

I went for a morning adventure to explore Wayside Spring. And to get garden ideas since now that I'm done with the inside of my house, I'm concentrating on the yard. Quite a few winter camellias, which were beautiful.

Hiking 1:04:47 [3] 2.83 mi (22:54 / mi) +86m 20:56 / mi

I made a friend! My neighbor, Ginger, and I went for a walk in the park. We seem to be very much alike, so I think this is going to work out pretty well!

Hiking 37:03 [3] 1.83 mi (20:15 / mi) +65m 18:14 / mi

I did something to my right knee in Tucson to make it feel not so great. I iced it there and have been icing it, off and on, since I returned. I gave it some time and then went for a trial outing the other day. It didn't feel perfect, but better than in Tucson. So, a hike today and probably tomorrow, and then I'll try again.
