Serious deep bruise on the front of my right quad. Will keep me from training for a couple of days at least. I hope it heals sufficiently by our first 8 hour race on 5/1.

Lake Elmo meet (set by Mike and Julia). Good conditions and good run, except for the barbed wire and susequent rock to the quadriceps. Last 4 controls were a little slower. Good enough for 2.5 min behind Owen.

AR night training, on mountain bikes with tow. Stayed on roads and trail due to previous day of rain. I had some tire problems for the first time in a long time. Luckily, we found a gas station with free air at 3 AM.
Hiking (AR training) 2:55:55 [2] 8 km (21:59 / km)
Night AR training. About 2 hours in Lake Elmo, I had Mark navigate the advanced POC in the dark and fog. About 1 hour the following morning at Pine Point Park. I did no navigation so it was just a hike for me.

Saturday Apr 16

Night-O at Sunfish Lake. Ian set a looped course that started out easy and got progressively harder. It had rained for the past 24 hours or so, and there was heavy fog in the low lying areas which just made things harder. Towards the end of the course I had to take my glasses off. I was able to minimize mistakes, though, longest split was 11 minutes. Still ended up first runner across the finish, though!?

Beginning of AR night training session at 11:30 PM. We ran loops from my my house to pick up maps before getting on the bikes.

All 26 controls at the Lake Elmo POC, score format. Like a weird cross between a normal Red/Blue and a sprint event, but only 2 stars technical (maybe 1 1/2).

River Bottoms trail again, from the east side up to the RR bridge and back. Plenty of water to float the raft. Trails dry to tacky, small wet spots.

Night trek/orienteering with Gnome Hunters at Wild River. I let the others navigate a 14 point course. Got home at 3 AM.

Ascend and rappel work at Taylors Falls. Gotta get ready for AR season.

spiked:16/19c shoes: Montrail Vitesse 2
10k blue course at the first meet of the season at William O'Brien. Not difficult, but used 3 stars because the map was inaccurate in places and required greater concentration. Warm, humid, lots of thorns. Came in 2 min behind the Bairds for 3rd overall. About 4-5 minutes of errors due mostly to bad contours.

MN River bottoms trail - E side double loop with Suzanne and then W side by myself. Raft isn't going in until tomorrow.

2 hr trail hike at Frontenac. Only counting half the time, and only because there were some pretty steep hills. Slow pace, examining the local flora and fauna.

First off road bike of the year at river flats, with Mark and Suzanne. Raft isn't in yet, but the E side of Lyndale is dry and fast.

Lake Elmo. Decided I don't like these shoes - shouldn't hurt after only 45 minutes of running.

Cottage Grove Ravine for the first time this year. Perfect trail conditions, slight leftover snow, trails dried up otherwise. And gotta love daylight savings time.

Members only sprint course. One mistake, but it didn't matter (it wouldn't have affected my place.) Made the mistake of eating a brownie just before... oops.
