Saturday Aug 27

Trail Run 1:05:00 [3] * 12.3 km (5:17 / km)
shoes: Denver Salomons
Run on the Ice Age Trail at Timberland Hills. Went SW to paved road, road run back to car, then N, E, SW as the day faded away. Started out a little slow because my stomach was grousing, but speeded up in the 2nd half. No trail maps, so I had to run it by checking the direction of the (fading!) sunlight, which gives it one star for the concentration needed.
Road Run 15:00 [3] 3.2 km (4:41 / km)
shoes: Denver Salomons
Road run section

Wednesday Aug 24

Orienteering race 14:18 [4] ** 2.08 km (6:53 / km)
spiked:7/8c shoes: Montrail Vitesse II (2005)
A disappointing sprint run. Lost about 45 seconds on 6-7, I overcorrected going across the side of a hill and had to come back down a row of trees to hit the control.
Orienteering race 7:04 [4] ** 1.3 km (5:26 / km)
spiked:5/5c shoes: Montrail Vitesse II (2005)
Same controls as the long, different approaches. It was still an advantage. Plus I was warmed up then.

Long - Splits

Short - Splits

Hiking race (Adv Race) 2:00:00 [3] * 7.0 mi (17:08 / mi)
shoes: Montrail Vitesse II (2005)
Trek to Little Girl's Point beach, mostly paved road. Our team isn't the kind that can run 7 miles after 13 hours of pushing it, just a brisk walk instead.
Paddling (kayak) race (Adv Race) 3:00:00 [3] * 5.5 mi (32:43 / mi)
Paddled inflatable kayaks down the S shore of Lake Superior to a little inlet with a waterfall. (added time recovering from the cold.)
Hiking race (Adv Race) 1:30:00 [3] * 5.0 mi (17:59 / mi)
shoes: Montrail Vitesse II (2005)
Road hike to the O section. We were the last team to make the cutoff for the full course, but still in 2nd place. Yes, only 2 teams did the full course!
Orienteering race (Adv Race) 1:30:00 [3] *** 3.0 mi (29:59 / mi)

More tricky O - but we nailed them this time around.
MTB (technical) race (Adv Race) 3:09:00 [4] 30.0 mi (6:18 / mi)
Combination road/gravel road back to the finish. Some intense rocky downhills, and an area where the roads were bad and my map got wet. So we took a couple of blind turns, but managed alright. Total time 24:09.

X and XX loops at Lebanon Hills
Ropes 30:00 [3]
Practiced ~40 ft traverse in a ravine near Mark's house. The slopes were steep even near the anchors, making it tricky to clip in and out. Mark and I both tried it with my bike hanging behind as well.

Paddled Dan's kayaks upstream from the Cedar Bridge landing. Chris and Dave came with their kayaks and did circles around us. We experimented with various kinds of towing.
