Saturday Dec 31

I sure am enjoying the holiday "off" week. It starts up again though - Monday after work I'm cashing in my free session with a PT (personal trainer, not physical therapist!) that I got when I joined Northwest. I've decided winter road running sucks, and the skiing isn't much fun yet, so I'm substituting 3 days a week in a spinning class. I get a pretty good deal through work - $46 as long as I go 8 times/month.

Felt a bit slow and stiff. My hips and back weren't as loose as they should have been, even with the usual stretches. About 32 and a little breezy.

Hiking 45:00 [2]

Checked out some of the portages/takeout/putin along the St Croix river. Discovered a couple new trails as well. Again, warm with melting snow.

Rain last night and 40 degrees today ruined the snow we had. So I did a @&#$%# road run instead.

Ski (classic) 1:06:30 [3]

OK, so I lied about taking it easy. My leg was feeling much better in the morning (no grating sounds) so I went up to WRSP to join the folks. Got in a good loop at Breezy Valley, but wasn't able to avoid a couple falls (1 really stupid one).
Note
Advil seems to be the key on keeping the tendonitis down.

Friday Dec 16

I've developed an inflamed tendon on the outside of my calf. It really started to bother me after my Tuesday run and my Thursday ski. I'm going to have to rest for a few days, take Advil and let it settle. Bummer when there's such good snow.

Thursday Dec 15

Ski (classic) 1:30:00 [2]

Well groomed trails at Elm Creek - very unlike last night

Wednesday Dec 14

Ski (classic) 1:05:00 [2]
weight:149.6lbs shoes: Alpina X-C ski boots
We got 6 inches of heavy wet sticky snow today, but it's enough!

Might have to check out Elm Creek, though.

Tuesday Dec 13

Road Run 43:50 [3] 10.36 km (4:14 / km)

Clockwise loop to Snelling/Randolph, lots of zigzag on back roads

Nice run through some of the not-so-well mapped areas of William O'Brien. A couple inches of snow, barely got my socks wet. Ankle not sore after the run like it was last weekend.

Saturday Dec 10

Trail Run 1:07:10 [3] 8.1 mi (8:17 / mi)
weight:149lbs shoes: Montrail Vitesse II (2006, gra
River trail - Cedar to 35 and back, warmup loop over to bass ponds. A fair amount of packed snow on the trail combined with the first above-freezing temperatures in over a week made it slippery.

Cold 9 AM start (mid-teens seems to feel right.) Excellent run except for the end where I ran out of fuel. Eglinski and JP were both able to pass me right at the end.

OK Champs at Shawnee Mission Park. First race since tweaking my ankle last weekend, but the new Active Ankle was a gift was heaven. Mass start with forks at the beginning, then a long loop, then four Micr-O controls near the end. I was running together with ebuckley, jerritt, iriharding through the Micro-O sections but had taken the long fork at the beginning, so I had one less to do afterwards. Managed to punch all the right ones, plus two wrong since there was no penalty for mispunches (so long as you repunched the right one.) Finished 5th overall, 2nd in M20-40.
