Round trip between Mark's house and Leb.

Saturday Oct 28

MTB (technical) 1:30:00 [3] 15.0 mi (6:00 / mi)
Afternoon bike at Leb. 5 short laps waiting for Chuck, then the usual 2XX. Fast average of 9.6.

Friday Oct 27

Orienteering 1:10:00 [2] *** 7 km (10:00 / km)
spiked:15/17c shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (2006, black
Control picking at Tierney's Woods. Map is still pretty good, woods are nice and open this late in the season.

Thursday Oct 26

Trail Run 58:00 [4] 7.6 mi (7:38 / mi)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (2006, black
W-E-W run at river bottoms. Felt tired and slow. Definitely more effort but turned out to not be so slow after all. Maybe I'll rest the running for a couple of days and get on the bike.

Tuesday Oct 24

Trail Run 35:15 [3] 4.0 mi (8:49 / mi)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (2006, black
Easy run on the Lake-Franklin loop, looking for trails.

Sunday Oct 22

Orienteering race (Minne-goat) 2:15:22 [4] *** 14.4 km (9:24 / km) +250m 8:39 / km
spiked:26/28c shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (2006, black
Minnegoat at Murphy. Loop A was long, almost 10 km, with some hilltop to hilltop hopping. Jerritt, Stephen, and I ran mostly together through the first 6 controls, then I took a different route to 7 (probably slower, after analysis) but ended up ahead by 10. Came in for map exchange 5 min ahead, slammed down a Gu and kept going on the shorter and more technical 2nd loop. Managed it cleanly (one bobble on B6) and gained time on the loop.

Course distance adjusted for skips: 11 on loop A and 13 on loop B.

Eye didn't bother me during the race (focus is everything!) but it's hurts a little now.

Saturday Oct 21

Note
(injured)
Woke up last night with a swollen and painful eye. Found out this morning I have a 2 mm scratch on my cornea. I guess last night's branch to the eye made a direct hit this time. Still hoping to run the 'goat but I'll play it by ear. I don't want to miss 2 years in a row. Luckily, this kind of injury heals within a few days.
C • Ouch! 1

Friday Oct 20

Orienteering race 54:43 [4] *** 6 km (9:07 / km)
spiked:11/14c shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (2006, black
Bad start to the 3rd adventure run. Stupidly went to the wrong hilltop on #1 (although it was hilarious to see most of the field following me). #2 was just off the top of a hill with really thick vegetation and I must have gone right by without seeing it, then got turned around in the thick stuff. By the time I got #2 I was sure I was back half of the pack. Ran clean from then on and passed a bunch of teams, finished within 2 min of MoBizMoLuv for 2nd overall. Although the result wasn't really disappointing, the performance was. I expect a better job out of myself at the beginning, especially with easy controls like that.

Wednesday Oct 18

Trail Run 48:10 [3] 6.5 mi (7:24 / mi)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (2006, black
Same loop as Monday, except backwards.
C • Telemark Controls 4

Monday Oct 16

Trail Run 50:00 [3] 6.5 mi (7:41 / mi)
Ford-Lake loop plus some time messing around figuring out where the trails were. JJ is right - there are some really nice soft trails to run down along the bluffs. It was sheltered and the yellow maples still had a lot of leaves so it looked earlier in the season than it actually is. Didn't see any sketchy guys.
C • Glad you found the trails... 2

Friday Oct 13

Note
Fall Adv Run #2
Orienteering race (Night-O) 52:30 [4] ** 6.6 km (7:57 / km)
spiked:10/11c shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (2006, black
Run #2 at Hyland. Lots of trail running including a route choice around Hyland Lake. Took an unusual route in order to get away from JJ at #3, and managed to reach the split 10 sec before him. Wasn't so fast on the 2nd half but made less mistakes than the other runners.
C • good race... 4

Wednesday Oct 11

MTB (technical) 1:10:00 [3] 10.0 mi (7:00 / mi)
2 loops at Leb with Chuck and Dave. Windy, mid 30s. My feet went numb, can't someone invent thermal bike shoes?

Sunday Oct 8

Orienteering race (Sprint) 19:00 [4] *** 2.21 km (8:36 / km)
spiked:5/7c shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (2006, black
Bad bad bad bad run the next morning. Blew two of seven, not really seriously but enough to count in a sprint.
MTB (technical) 30:00 [3] *** 4.0 mi (7:30 / mi)
Biked the Ojibwe trail to go pick up some controls from yesterday. Right as I was coming back to North End it started to rain - no more biking this weekend :(
Hiking 30:00 [2] 2.0 mi (14:59 / mi)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (2006, black
Hiked the loop trail at Copper Falls SP.

Saturday Oct 7

Event: MNOC Fall Orienteering Weekend

Orienteering race 1:08:17 [4] **** 6.41 km (10:39 / km) +200m 9:13 / km
spiked:10/12c shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (2006, black
Telemark Day 1. Good run but I got tired at the end. One bobble on 3 and a 5min boom on 6-7, but the rest of it was clean. Warm, windy, almost all the leaves off.
Map Run 1:20:00 [2] ***
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (2006, black
Off trail jog/walk Sat morning, to get my head into the map.
Orienteering race (Night-O) 56:25 [4] **** 5.48 km (10:18 / km) +120m 9:17 / km
spiked:15/16c shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (2006, black
Two loops of Night-O with a map exchange. First loop was the orange-level. Owen, Graham, Justin and I ran together at first but Owen gradually gained some distance. We came around for a map exchange onto a much more difficult loop, and despite the early leads the four of us hit B2 together again. Justin and I dropped off the back a little, and I had to fight Kevin T on the run from B6 into the finish. Telemark is HARD at night - concentration is key.

Thursday Oct 5

MTB (road) 1:36:00 [3] 21.7 mi (4:25 / mi)
Finally! some time to get a session in. Twi-night ride on the extended river loop, with some trail riding.
