Saturday Jan 26

Ski (classic) 1:15:00 [3]
At William O'Brien. Tracks not too good, trail hard under 1/4", and my skis were sticky. It felt like a lot of effort.
Road Run 23:00 [4] 5 km (4:36 / km)
Around the neighborhood to burn off some excess energy. Legs burned a bit on the uphills. First time running with my iPod.

Monday Jan 21

Orienteering race (Extreme-O) 2:15:30 [3] *** 11.5 km (11:47 / km)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (2007, gray)
Not as muddy and gross as expected, but I'll have a report soon. Ian and I teamed up again and posted the fastest time on the long course.

Sunday Jan 20

Orienteering race 1:26:25 [4] *** 10.3 km (8:23 / km) +246m 7:30 / km
spiked:11/17c shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (2007, gray)
Much better weather today - clear sky but a little cooler. Good run in the NW part of the park. Made small mistakes on 6 of the controls, but nailed the rest and felt good running.

Day 2 Blue - Splits

Saturday Jan 19

Event: Georgia Navigator Cup

Orienteering race 1:53:27 [4] *** 11.8 km (9:37 / km) +276m 8:36 / km
spiked:12/18c shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (2007, gray)
Day 1 Blue at GNC. Stumbled pretty badly out of the start (figuratively, that is) and made mistakes on 1, 2, 4 and 5 before I settled down and grokked the map. After that it was pretty good. Will post splits later and assess the actual damage.

Steady rain and 40 degrees made things a little more trying, Terrain was fun, not too steep and lots of intricate ditches and gullies, some deep with almost vertical sides. Light to moderate undergrowth. Some trail running.

Most importantly, it's not below zero.

Day 1 Blue - Splits

Tuesday Jan 15

Road Run 45:00 [3] 5.6 mi (8:02 / mi)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (2007, gray)
Ford-Lake loop with Brian, Dave, Corey and Sam. Cut it short due to other plans and picked up the pace at the end because of the wind.

Sunday Jan 13

Event: MNOC Winter O Nerstrand Big Woods

Orienteering (course setting) 2:30:00 [3] *** 10 km (15:00 / km) +300m 13:03 / km
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (2007, gray)
Setting the score-O at Nerstrand

Orienteering (control retrieval) 15:00 [3] ** 1 km (15:00 / km) +100m 10:00 / km

Sunday Jan 6

Road Run 55:00 [3] 7.1 mi (7:45 / mi)
Around Calhoun and Harriet with Brian and the rest of the runners.

Saturday Jan 5

Ski (classic) 2:00:00 [2] 7.5 mi (16:00 / mi)
About a dozen of us went from the Wirth par 3 to the Mall, SW of Isles. Followed the Loppet course most of the way and ended up in a pack with Ian, Dan, Rebecca, Justin, Molly M and Molly J. Lots of goofing off as well, then headed to Old Chicago for O Steve's birthday lunch.

Wednesday Jan 2

Note
Wussing out because of the cold. Staying away from the club because of all the New Year's resolutions. Sitting around and eating pizza because I feel like it :P
C • very un Pete like....how ab... 1
Note
Hey, it's easier when I don't have any specific goals to meet or not meet, but here's the numbers:

Pete powered: 2,226 miles, 514 hours
Biking: 1,330 miles (60%), 144 hours (28%)
Paddling: 182 miles (8%), 53 hours (10%)
Run/hike on a map: 472 miles (21%), 179 hours (35%)
Other run/hike: 242 miles (11%), 133 hours (26%)
Number of controls: 1,072
Number boomed: 100 (91% success rate)
Total climb: 29,000 meters

And to echo Ian's checklist of highlights:

- Orienteering under 8 min/km for 15% of my time, 24% of distance. Under 9 min/km for 25%/40%. (A lot higher for actuals races; O time in adventure races pulled the average way up)
- 6th place overall on M21+ at a national event (Colorado)
- 2nd place in Florida Coast to Coast AR
- Bagged five 14ers: Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln, Bross, and Elbert.
- Ran about 15 miles of the Superior Hiking Trail. I think I will try to run the whole thing over the coming years.
- 2007 was the best year yet for for my photo collection!

Have to run to a meeting now... more later.
