| Battle Creek, dog park around trails by school, then over to MTB trails, then down to the creek and back along the paved trail. Got an idea for TNT while I was running.

| Trail Run 35:00 [3] 4.3 mi (8:07 / mi) | ||
| Lake - Ford loop run with Brian and TCRC, starting at St. Clair. As we entered the lower trail near 44th St., a bee flew into my mouth and stung me on the back part of the roof of my mouth. I continued on to the boathouse with Brian, but bailed out at that point becuase my head was feeling pretty bad. Think two simultaneous ear infections and a sore jawbone. Jogged over to SA for some liquid and a couple of preventive Benadryl, then jogged back to the car in time to meet the rest of the TCRC folks.

Sunday Jul 27 | ||
| Paddling (kayak) 38:00 [3] * 3.0 mi (12:39 / mi) | ||
| Urban Adventure "Event" (not a race!) Teamed up with Ian and paddled solo kayaks fast from Calhoun to Cedar and Isles and back. Then carried the boats back to the car but still went past the 15 minute time out. We were a bit behind as we got on the bikes. | ||
| MTB (road) 15:00 [4] * 4.0 mi (3:45 / mi) +20m 2:18 / km | ||
| Calhoun to the N Glenwood lot at Wirth, via Cedar/Wirth Pkwy. Pushed the pace to catch up. | ||
| Orienteering 25:00 [3] ** 2.5 mi (10:00 / mi) | ||
| Swampateering for 4 flags near Bassett Creek. Caught up with Brian and Corey right near #2, stopped for a moment to change shoes and let them make their own race. Crossed a waist deep channel to get the #2. 3-4 was another channel crossing - we went straight through and ended up chest deep, but it was a good cooloff. | ||
| MTB (technical) 30:00 [2] 4.0 mi (7:30 / mi) | ||
| N to 55 from TA and over to the singletrack, then one loop and back to the entrance gate. | ||
| MTB (road) 40:00 [3] * 10.0 mi (3:59 / mi) | ||
| Back towards the TA, cut over on the paved trail and across the ped bridge at Thomas Ave. Then figured out how to scramble down to the commuter trail, and I almost got decapitated by the wire cable crossing the footpath down. Trail to Greenway, then east through Brackett and down the river to 36th St. | ||
| Orienteering 20:00 [3] ** 2 km (10:00 / km) +20m 9:31 / km | ||
| Along river near 36th St. | ||
| MTB (road) 45:00 [4] * 9.0 mi (4:59 / mi) | ||
| Down to Minnehaha/vets home and back on the creek to Lake Harriet. | ||
| Orienteering 20:00 [2] ** 1.0 mi (20:00 / mi) | ||
| Flags in the Roberts bird sanctuary. Stephen R finally passed us on the second to last - I guess he was a few minutes behind the whole race. I was starting to cramp so we couldn't give him a run, and let him go in. | ||
| MTB (road) 15:00 [3] * 2.5 mi (6:00 / mi) | ||
| Bike back to the finish at Calhoun.

| Trail Run 1:30:00 [3] 11.2 mi (8:02 / mi) +150m 4:48 / km | ||
| Lake - W 7th loop, footpath on the east side, trails on the west side. Hills at Hidden Falls, Snelling, Minnehaha, and the boathouse. It's been a while since I did a good run like this.
Stopped and chatted with Ellen for a few minutes on the W 7th bridge. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2148294

Sunday Jul 6 | ||
| Paddling (kayak) 2:40:00 [2] 10.0 mi (16:00 / mi) | ||
| Paddled the Phalen - Keller - Gervais - Kohlman chain. Lots of milfoil in the system, and the connecting streams were pretty choked up and gross. The lakes were nice, though, even with the excessive engine use on Gervais.
The new Epic paddle is sweet.
Tuesday Jul 1 | ||
| Note | ||
| Finished the short course at PQ Montana - preliminary results are 31st place, 4th on short course. More to come after I get some sleep. | ||
| C • U ROCK 4 | ||
| MTB (technical) race 7:00:00 [3] *** 18.0 mi (23:20 / mi) +600m 13:08 / km | ||
| Up into the mountains to visit the CP at Little Bear Cabin, then a further ascent over the ridge. Walked our bikes through the snow about 8000 feet. Then a fun, fast downhill on 4WD trails, again with ruts and rocks, and a lot of tight turns. Came out near Spire Rock and took the road down to the TA at Storm Castle just after the ropes cutoff time (by design, of course.) | ||
| Miscellaneous (transition/sleep) 3:00:00 [0] | ||
| Waiting until the 9 AM trek cutoff, then a ride over to Ennis Lake from the support crew for the last bike leg before the finish line. About a dozen other teams were doing the same thing. | ||
| MTB (road) race 4:30:00 [3] ** 31.0 mi (8:43 / mi) +800m 5:01 / km | ||
| Kicked it into gear on the bikes - first a flat ride around Ennis Lake, then a slow uphill approach to the Madison Range, then a highly frustrating ride through Moonlight Basin which never seemed to end. It was the bike equivalent of the Bridger Mountain trail - never flat, always up or down (mostly up.) Several teams passed us on this section, but we still did it so quickly that our support crew almost didn't make it to the finish line. It turns out most of the teams that passed us were long-course (and thus not competing against us), although their presence combined with the nearness of the finish line served to push us all a little harder. We crossed the line at Big Sky Plaza in early afternoon and were each immediately handed a beer by some random people (probably other support crew), then got a champagne shower, then had pictures. Good race all around. Everyone safe, no injuries, and we all got along well. | ||
