Sunday Jun 17

Paddling (kayak) 4:27:00 [2] 18.4 mi (14:30 / mi)
My first time following the Harding training regimen. Dropped my bike at Hwy 61 just north of Red Wing and drove up to Cannon Falls to put in the kayak. Water was low, but the first third had some nice choppy areas and chutes to aim for. The second third was a little flatter and had a lot of tubers (not the potato kind...) I was offered a variety of beverages as I paddled by, but politely refused when I saw what they were.

Downstream of CR7 was completely empty of people and the wildlife came out. Saw a bunch of snapping turtles, a bunch of deer, a flock of about 35 buzzards circling the river (or me?) plus an osprey. Then later, I saw a bald eagle perched in a tree being harassed by, of all things, a red-winged blackbird. Finally the eagle had enough and took off, and the blackbird started chasing it and dive bombing it. Never saw that before.

MTB (road) 1:00:00 [3] 16.7 mi (3:35 / mi)
Return along the Cannon Valley Trail. Nice, flat, and fast, although it was a very gradual uphill. A little dangerous with all the rabbits and squirrels running across the path. Also scared up two turkeys.

MTB (road) 4:35:00 [2] 63.8 mi (4:19 / mi)
Long road ride, plus investigating Como courses, St. Paul campus, trails at L Johanna, Long Lake Park, and Mississippi R corridor. Finished off with Webber/Victory/Wirth/Greenway to my folk's house for BBQ.

Scary moment at Como when I thought I lost my car keys out of my pockets. I have an extra key but only one way to disable the alarm. Rode back home and found it in the parking lot inback of my building.

shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (2007, gray)
Checking out conditions at Tierney's. Still fairly runnable in the forest, but it would still be better in the fall. I may either shorten it or try somewhere else.
