Orienteering race 4:29:32 [2] 16.0 mi (16:51 / mi) +321m 15:51 / mi

Raid the Rib 2018 with Sparks and Joe. 11/20 and 5/6 coed.

Everyone(except 3 teams) started with a Sprint loop worth 100 points. The first 3 controls were total chaos as 17 teams were trying to punch one hand punch. I wanted to go hard but held back thinking of my teammate's legs. There wasn't really any navigation, and the 1:5000 map made it easy. In the end, you showed them your punch card on the map and punch one e-punch.

We then chose to skip everything in close and end to the farthest eastern map and clear it.

On the way, East we picked up both "Cat wants In" controls.

Next up were two "room without a view" controls. One was in the basement of an old building and the other was a cave. The old building was cool and we wished we had pulled out the Go-Pro for pictures. It took us 21 minutes to punch the first control on this map, but we weren't worried.

We shifted directly into " Heart of Darkness" which were in two very deep depressions. We kinda missed H1 thinking it was the cliff we had just worked around. The green in this area was annoying.

We then picked up the easy "End of the line" which was at the far East of the map on a large old culvert.

"This is depressing" took us back west and into 6 very annoying depressions. They were mostly deep with boulders and cliffs.

We were a little slower heading back West(24 minutes as it was uphill and we stopped to eat)

Next we grabbed "Cat wants Out" controls and moved on to the "matrix".

We chose not to clear it leaving an easy 50 points near the finish. If we had cleared we would only have moved up one place by leapfrogging Duca's team.

Run(Road) 7:33:00 [4] 20.0 mi (22:39 / mi) +546m 20:53 / mi

Crooked Compass Adventure Trek

4 mandatory and 17 optional controls. I punched 20/21 controls by skipping control Q.

Looks like I lost 40 minutes on Jason and Jessie getting to M1 where I needed to find first to pick up the punch card. I took the same route over the first hill as JayXC but then let the green push me south to point C. I didn't go to C but saw where it was from a distance. When I finally made it to M1 I was near the back of the pack and very frustrated.

Things went much better after that but I am still not pleased with my order.
