CNYO adventure sprint
This was really a street O. 6 different legs.
Leg 1: Start to control 200.(0.43 miles, 3:11) Not many route choices here. I would assume we were one big pack, but never turned around to see. Adam, Paul, and I were all together.
Leg 2: Loop to pick up all 2## controls.( 2.35miles ,18:20) We could pick CW or CCW direction. I chose CW and Adam followed me. Paul went CCW and I never saw him again. This loop took us through SUNY Cortland. After picking up 251, 252, 253, 252, 251 we came back to 200 to finish the loop.
Leg 3: Control 200 to 40.( 0.94 miles, 7:28) Point to point run. Adam and I took different routes. On flats he was much faster than me and beat me to 40 by a significant amount.
Leg 4: Forked traverse, 40 to 46 with every odd number having two choices. (1.84 miles, 16:03) I quickly caught Adam and passed him on a hill but once we stopped climbing he caught me again. It was clear we could both make up any gaps we put on each other. The forks didn't seem to have any advantage of each other, so I did what made sense to me.
Leg 5: 46 back to the start finish area to start the score-O. ( 0.31 miles, 2:32)
Leg 6: Score-O. (1.52 miles, 14:18) Had to pick up 16 points, where controls were worth 3, 4, or 5 points. This was my first mistake, I had my map folded and didn't see two 5 pointers right by the finish with no elevation change. Adam saw them, he picked up 16 points in half the distance I did and beat me by a good chunk of time.
This was a great event. I wish it was 3 times longer with more navigation.
