Hill work out. Trying longer hills this year. 0.25 miles might be too long a hill for me right now, but I felt good when it was all done.

Orienteering race 1:08:24 [4] *** 4.8 km (14:15 / km)
spiked:13/13c shoes: Solomon XT wings

Since neither Erin nor I felt like doing a trail race today we decided to drive 3 hours East to find an orienteering event. CNYO club had a very friendly event at Lime Hollow near Cortland, NY. After that stupid sprint race yesterday I decided to warm-up, stretch and see what my legs felt like.
Green(4.8km) Didn't look at the map until after I started.

1) 1:26. Took off down the trail and turned left into someones driveway. Took me a second to figure out the map and get back on course. Luckily the control was so close to the start that you could have seen it if it wasn't for the weeds and shrubs.

2) 1:47. By now I had the map figured out. Ran straight to the control since it could be seen from the trail.

3) 2:40. Decided to use trails through this section. It added to the distance but everywhere I looked I saw light green woods or swamps. I need to learn what the clues mean. The control was just a few feet through a hedgerow-vegetation boundary-rock pile.

4) 4:41. Took off through a swamp. My line was good, but I still wonder if the trail would have been faster. I was happy once I reached a Pine forest. A intact barbed wire fence led right to the hill where the control sat.

5) 2:50. Should have been an easy control since I could see it from the trail. Getting to it while avoiding an old stone fence and tons of blow down wasn't easy.

6) 2:43. Back to the trail, then mostly down hill. Couldn't see the control but the ribbons around it helped a ton. About 2 hours later I watched a couple search for this one. The large diameter trees made it hard.

7) 3:12. Unmarked trails made this one easy. Past through a old camp with a spring box. Neat little area.

8) 1:30. Nice little hill to make the legs hurt. Control was visible from the trail.

9) 30:51. No that is not a typo. When ever I forget that I just came back to this sport 4 weeks ago the maps jumps out and kicks my ass. The 23 years off show up once in awhile. Once again I could have gone back to my car, got a gel and water and still found the control faster that this.

10) 4:09. By now my legs were shot from that 30 mins of running away from the control. Found this one easy at the bottom of a re-entrant.

11) 4:51. Could see control from the trail but getting to it was hard. Vegetation was thick, ground was soft.

12) 4:20. Track meet time. All trails straight to the control.

13) 1:25. Track meet. Flat trails.

Finish. 1:59. Sprint down the road to the finish.

Reversegreen.

CNYO were nice enough to plug in reverse green. Erin and I did it together to get her more experience.
