On a somewhat last minute decision I decided to run this race a few days before. I arrived at the start area (at a government school) shortly after 5:00 am. I registered for the race 300 THB, collected my number and t-shir and I was set. I lined up at the front of the pack of runners. I was surprised to notice that I was the only foreigner at the race, a first the races that I have attended in Thailand. The race started and a bunch of kids sprinted to the front of the pack for a short period of time. Then I found myself leading the pack over a small bridge and along a quiet residential street. Then a fast guy went past me and then around the 2 km. mark a large group of fast runners passed me. I thought I was running quite strong, only to have numerious runners pass me. I found myself in 23rd place overall as I passed the 7 km. mark. I was feeling quite good as I pushed along. Around the 10 km. mark I passed 3 runners (including one guy in my age group and another who was one place infront of me last weekend). I crossed the finish line and I was told that all the placing lanyards for my age group were gone! Then about 5 minutes later I saw a guy in my group cross the finish line and recieve a 5th place lanyard. I thought "what?, I was told that they are all gone". I knew something was wrong and there was some kind of mix-up. About 10 minutes later all the people involved in the mix-up were called on the PA system. The problem was fixed and I placed 20th overall and 4th in the 16-29 age group. I won a trophy!
