Another early morning run at Central World in the heart of BKK. The race started at 5:30 am. and I quickly settled into a comfortable pace. I was leading the race for the first 800 meters or so and then a guy passed me, putting me in 2nd place with a bike escort! I felt quite strong and I was able to push the pace. It was a little sketchy crossing some intersections as they did not block off the traffic completely, although there were police positioned every 50-100 meters along the course. I passed the 5 km. mark in 19:23, although after that I felt like my pace was dropping off a little. I was running alone and I did not have the motivation of other runners around. There was not a runner in sight! The bike escort (marshal #18) was still with me (and he stayed with me until the end). I crossed the line in 2nd. place overall and got nothing. No trophy, money or prize, just an interview on a satellite T.V. station who sponsored the race. The winner (male and female) got an autographed and framed Liverpool Football Club jersey. Unfortunately I came-up way short of first (5 minutes!). I did get to meet and get autographs from 2 Liverpool Football Club players.
