Wednesday Dec 31 |
 | Cycling 1:50:00 [3] 24.0 mi (4:35 / mi) | |
| |
| Home - work - Kennedy Center for Kirov Ballet - home. |
Tuesday Dec 30 |
 | Cycling 1:20:00 [3] 16.1 mi (4:57 / mi) | |
| |
| |
Monday Dec 29 |
 | Cycling 1:20:00 [3] 16.25 mi (4:56 / mi) | |
| |
| Back to the usual commute. |
Saturday Dec 27 |
 | Walking 1:30:00 [1] | |
| |
| Restrained myself as it became obvious that I was going to have to not run for at least one day to let my inner thighs recover from skiing for so long the first time of the season. |
 | Rock Climbing (indoor) 16:00 [5] 0.02 km (13:20:00 / km) | |
| |
| Climbing gym with some friends, counting only an estimate of the time spent actually climbing the four climbs I did. Indoor rock climbing must be just about the least impressive, in Attackpoint terms, form of exercise on the planet. At least outdoors you usually have to climb up to the crag. |
Friday Dec 26 |
 | Running 1:51:00 [2] | |
| |
| Still no snow - one more reason to go back in February. Knock on wood, it should be possible to ski then. |
Thursday Dec 25 |
 | Running 14:00 [2] | |
| |
| Warnup and cooldown. |
 | Running 41:00 [4] | |
| |
| North along the Rideau Canal from Mooney's Bay, around Dow's Lake and back. Somewhere around threshhold except in the Experimental Farm Arboretum since it's very hard to run quickly on trails consisting of solid wet ice. No snow accumulation worth mentioning. |
Wednesday Dec 24 |
 | Running 18:00 [3] | |
| |
| Quick nip out to finish my shopping. The rain was doing an even better job polishing off the snow than I'd expected. I fear snow tomorrow and Friday won't suffice to make Gatineau Park worth skiing in. |
Tuesday Dec 23 |
 | Running 1:20:00 [3] | |
| |
| Highly intermittent running downtown and back, doing most of my Christmas shopping en route. |
Monday Dec 22 |
 | Cross Country Skiing 3:30:00 [2] | |
| |
| Long and flat, downstream to the end of the Rideau River and back (I'm in Ottawa). There was adequate snow and rain predicted over the next two days so I decided to ski while I still could, even if that meant settling for doing it in town instead of in Gatineau Park. |
 | Running 18:00 [3] | |
| |
| First reconnaissance of my seasonal shopping. |
Saturday Dec 20 |
 | Cycling 40:00 [3] | |
| |
| |
Friday Dec 19 |
 | Cycling 1:20:00 [3] 16.1 mi (4:57 / mi) | |
| |
| |
Thursday Dec 18 |
 | Cycling 1:40:00 [3] 20.0 mi (4:59 / mi) | |
| |
| |
Wednesday Dec 17 |
 | Cycling 1:30:00 [3] 18.1 mi (4:57 / mi) | |
| |
| |
Tuesday Dec 16 |
 | Cycling 1:20:00 [3] 16.1 mi (4:57 / mi) | |
| |
| Standard work commute - no side trips. |
Monday Dec 15 |
 | Running 29:00 [3] | |
| |
| Runs to and from Metro - wanted to give ice a chance to melt before I chanced cycling on the roads. |
Sunday Dec 14 |
 | Running 12:00 [3] | |
| |
| Metro to workplace - had something I needed to get done. |
 | Running 1:27:00 [2] 10.0 mi (8:41 / mi) | |
| |
| Running home afterwards through Rock Creek Park almost to the DC line then on sidewalks. Sandwiching a brief tussle with the ultimate navigational challenge - a Maryland suburb on an overcast day while carrying no map and no compass. Much wasted distance but I emerged at a location other than the one I entered at and closer to my destination so I'll call it a draw. In four years at my current address, comprising hundreds of round trips by bicycle, this was the first time I ever covered the entire distance between work and home as a pedestrian. |
Friday Dec 12 |
 | Cycling 1:20:00 [3] 16.1 mi (4:57 / mi) | |
| |
| Another work commute. Left thigh still sore enough that I'm beginning to wonder whether a long run tomorrow is a good idea. Especially since this Saturday is my best chance, short of making the trek on a weekday evening, to get to the exhibit of drawings and designs by Jim Henson at the University of Maryland before it closes next week. |
Thursday Dec 11 |
 | Cycling 1:20:00 [3] 16.25 mi (4:56 / mi) | |
| |
| Work commute - feeling it more in the quads afterwards than I would have expected. I suppose starting with two hours of cycling after a week and a half long layoff was a lot. |
Wednesday Dec 10 |
 | Cycling 2:00:00 [3] 21.0 mi (5:42 / mi) | |
| |
| Work commute (left thigh can at least stand non-impact activities) plus trip to Library of Congress to see Sergio Leone's "Once Upon a Time In The West" in what I'm told was a seriously gutted 2.5 hour version. Still awesome. It was hardly raining at all as I left the LOC. Would that that had remained true for the 20 minutes it took me to get home. I'm not sanguine about our meet at Bowie taking place this Sunday though word hasn't yet come from Nadim on the current state of the park. |
Sunday Dec 7 |
 | Orienteering 1:04:21 [4] 6.84 km (9:24 / km) +250m 7:57 / km | |
| |
| Blue at the Mid-Atlantics. Messed up the first control pretty badly, didn't exactly ace the next one then settled down for most of the rest of them. Hard slog through maybe seven or eight inches of accumulated snow. Fell badly onto left thigh going downhill from control 10 to the big road run/hobble. Bailed on subsequent relay as the thigh was stiffening fast. |
Saturday Dec 6 |
 | Running 36:00 [4] | |
| |
| Running hither and yon in 3 to 12 minute bursts, the last one taking me to pick up my once again road worthy bicycle. Though a few days may be required before the roads are up to scratch. |
 | Modern Dance 1:30:00 [2] | |
| |
| |
Thursday Dec 4 |
 | Running 28:00 [3] | |
| |
| More commuting. |
Wednesday Dec 3 |
 | Running 42:00 [3] | |
| |
| More toing and froing between home, work and various Metro stations. |
Tuesday Dec 2 |
 | Running 34:00 [3] | |
| |
| Aggregate of five to twelve minute runs between home and Metro and work and Metro. Still feeling the weekend a little bit. |
Monday Dec 1 |
 | Running 12:00 [3] | |
| |
| Running from work to the Metro. Sore - following intervals with a fairly hard run on pavement the next day is probably a good thing to not do routinely. |
