Orienteering 1:02:55 [4] 9.0 km (6:59 / km) +265m 6:06 / km

Some orienteering again at last. Blue course in rain with a bit of snow still on the ground to ensure adequate lubrication of the leaves underfoot. On a newly updated edition of the Great Falls, MD map. Good run through most of the course with only slight drifting and hesitations to read detail I should have read earlier. Then I did a big aimless circle around the fourteenth control when the trail up on the spur turned out to be less clear to me in the terrain than it looked on the map. The course setters had large scale maps printed for people to draw their courses on afterwards - it seems most other people were less inclined to take trails around than I was.

Orienteering 15:00 [2]

Control pickup.

Note

Rest day - tested fundamental endurance by sitting through Parts 1 through 6 of Krzysztof Kieslowski's Decalogue but can't twist that into training with even the most laboured interpretation.

Cycling 1:20:00 [3] 16.1 mi (4:58 / mi)

Normal commute. Nasty headwind on the way into work - I hate it when I have to pedal hard to avoid slowing on downhills.

Running 25:00 [1]

Warmup, rest between intervals and cooldown.

Running 16:00 [5] 4.4 km (3:38 / km)

4 x 1100m I intervals - each one probably took about 4:05 with about two minutes rest between them but it was much too cold and my gloves were much too thick to try taking splits.

Cycling 1:50:00 [3] 20.0 mi (5:30 / mi)

Commute plus cycling to one of the most long-winded meetings of the Board of Trustees of the DC Public Library I've ever attended. Intensity was probably mostly higher than 3 but I've never been sure quite what I ought to do with the sprint - loiter at stop light - repeat until you get to your destination nature of most of the cycling I post.

Note

VOC/US Team meet in Alabama - it's tentative but I expect I'll go to this.
