Sunday May 29

Event: Memorial Day Weekend US Team Fundraiser

Orienteering race 1:48:05 [4]11.6 km (9:19 / km) +550m 7:32 / km
shoes: Surrey K100s
US Team Fundraiser Blue at Stuckey Pond - knew I'd done too much training (especially the lunges on Thursday) for an all out effort so this was a nice run in the woods, a little bit sloppy navigationally in places - it's been a long time since I ran in woods with visibility that low what with the leaves very definitely out.

Blue - Splits

Saturday May 28

Orienteering 2:58:00 [1]7 km (25:26 / km)
Something I've said I ought to to for a long time - went to French Creek (North, as it happened) and did a long session practicing compass and pace from charcoal platform to charcoal platform.

Friday May 27

Running 1:38:00 [2]10.0 mi (9:47 / mi)
shoes: NB856
Commute in by way of Rock Creek Park trails.
Running 1:40:00 [2]10.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: NB856
Running home in the evening - cooler than the fairly early morning run. Felt all right except it appears I did a few too many lunges. With luck I'll be feeling fine for the races on Sunday and Monday.

Thursday May 26

Cycling 1:20:00 [3]16.0 mi (4:59 / mi)
Form exercises 41:00 [3]
The usual jogging, silly walks, 8x100m strides and bounding. Also a set of lunges and a couple of sets of two-legged vertical leaps. My legs felt very good for the strides.

Wednesday May 25

Cycling 1:06:00 [3]13.0 mi (5:04 / mi)
Seems a shame to end a moment when my training shows as 100% orienteering but the volume will be rather lacking if I don't.
Core exercises 8:00 [4]
During "Lost" finale, before "Alias" finale - speaking of which, could it have been any more obvious (assuming you've seen the end of "On Her Majesty's Secret Service") that something violent was going to happen to them in that final scene in the car? Action heroes should know better than to discuss gettimg married in moving vehicles. Though I won't claim I anticipated the "I'm not who you've thought I was since the day you met me in the pilot episode." revelation - does this mean the whole going rogue to search for his supposedly dead father was purely to support a cover story?

Tuesday May 24

Note
Dragged myself home and did nothing but laundry - the cumulative effect of hard orienteering efforts, including some falls to contribute upper body stiffness, only a few hours sleep on the overnight but short flight back east, quite a lot of driving by my standards and just generally coming down from the stimulation of three days of trials races wiped me out. Right knee felt a bit strange but I don't think it's anything.

Monday May 23

Orienteering race 15:25 [5]3 km (5:08 / km) +85m 4:30 / km
shoes: Surrey K100s
Sage Stomp Sprint Course 8 - a great race, though I was wondering during the initial 6 contours of climb from the start to the first control. I was running just about flat out on everything except legs 4 and 5 due to concern about the cost of climbing back uphill if I didn't keep map contact and overran them.
Note
Team and race selection can't be considered final until Ted has a chance to talk to those who had to leave to catch planes or think things over but, based on the meeting after the sprint, I'll be running the long and sprint races in Japan.
