Event: QOC Avalon

Orienteering race 1:04:52 [4]

QOC Avalon Blue - 2nd, a bit farther behind Lacho than I'm entirely happy about, even given that I may have spent longer making sure I was where I thought I was when I got to the control that was marked on the master map incorrectly than he did.

Orienteering 30:00 [3]

Pickup of 10 controls crossing from the west side of the map (fdropped off by Cliff Hamal) back to Avalon.

Core exercises 10:00 [4]

Abdominal stuff while watching Planet Earth. Temperate forest episode after I finished had extremely adorable film of seven day old Mandarin Duck ducklings leaping out of their nest high in a tree and plummetting to earth then hotfooting to the nearest lake with their mother.

(Clarification - the Mandarin Duck ducklings were a day old and there were seven of them. It was a near surfeit of cuteness.)

Rosaryville

Hiking 3:15:00 [1]

Six and a half hours of surveying in Rosaryville - half logged.

Running 1:30:00 [2]

Easy run home through Rock Creek Park. Saw a presumed beaver slightly downstream from where most of my sightings last winter took place.

Running 2:15:29 [2] 13.0 km (10:25 / km)

It would have been a crime not to run to work through Rock Creek Park under the circumstances so I did for the first time of hopefully many this base training season. Beautiful fresh snow everywhere and most of the roughest section of the Valley Trail had not yet been visited by even the most intrepid dog walker, though it looked as though a single fox had preceded me even on most of that.

Also ran home from PCRM,with almost half of the running through Rock Creek Park. Took Metro from work to PCRM.

Cycling 30:00 [3]

Cycling in before the snow really got going. Though I saw two accidents on the way to work despite that.

Cycling 50:00 [1]

Creeping home, largely on snowy sidewalks, by way of the aquatic center. Lovely big fluffy flakes falling thickly on the first leg, dangerous, of course. Had lightened up a bit for the rest of the way home.

Swimming 10:00 [3]

Flutterkicking to loosen up at the beginning.

Deep Water Running 16:00 [5]

4x4min intervals again, two minute rests. Tried to time my pulse for 10 seconds after three of them getting counts around 28 each time. No idea how that compares to what I'd count after comparably hard feeling intervals on land so I'll have to check that sometime.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

Another windy commute in. Annoying all the leaves on the sidewalk bidding to attach themselves to my bike's moving parts. Home by way of the Chevy Chase branch of the DC library.

Note

Forecast says snow is likely tomorrow - 1 to 3" accumulation possible. Cool, even if potentially inconvenient. Probably not enough to make roads unsuitable for cycling come the weekend though, so shouldn't be enormously inconvenient.

Running 6:53 [1]

Warmup/cooldown.

Form exercises 36:54 [4]

Silly walks, 8x100m strides, 8x10 second uphill sprints on a steeper and better lit hill than the one I used last time plus one longer hill heading home at the very end of the workout.

Monday Dec 3, 2007 #

Cycling 1:03:00 [3]

Windy, occasionally headwindy, commute in. Home by way of TPSS and the pool, with tailwinds and sometimes dangerous crosswinds.

Swimming 26:00 [3]

Flutterkicking. Time enough for DWR later in the week.

Core exercises 10:00 [4]

Abdominal stuff.
