Orienteering race 12:16 [5] 2.57 km (4:46 / km) +28m 4:32 / km

QOC Manassas sprint - a bit of confusion approaching the second patch of rough open appearing on the map as white woods with a distinct vegetation boundary around the edge (the first such patch had been noticed on the maps before I started but its absence was initially believed to be due to some kind of snafu while editing the extent of the rough open in that area only) then no further troubles.

Orienteering race 52:50 [4] 8.41 km (6:17 / km) +115m 5:53 / km

QOC Manassas Red - fast but for some deadfall-strewn areas, little climb, slightly more difficulty with rough open areas not being on the map, particularly on the long leg heading west to 7. Quite an enjoyable day in the woods.

Note

Rosaryville

Cycling 1:25:00 [2]

Round trip to Rosaryville - non-Metro parts.

Hiking 4:00:00 [1]

About 6.5 hours of surveying in Rosaryville, more than half of it logged since I spent this session largely surveying linear and area features, i.e. spending less time than usual standing still.

Cycling 1:02:00 [3]

Cycling to work by way of the aquatic center. Home by way of food shopping in Chevey Chase.

Swimming 25:00 [3]

Abot half flutterkicking then half various strokes.

Deep Water Running 30:00 [4]

Either was having trouble pushing hard for some reason or was feeling really good physically for the intensity I was doing - not sure which.

Note

The latest hour by hour forecast for the daylight hours tomorrow claims it will rain on Rosaryville only between 2 and 3pm. Field checking is definitely on if that doesn't change substantially.

Running 6:00 [1]

Warmup/cooldown.

Form exercises 26:45 [4]

Silly walks, 10x10 second uphill sprint, 3x100m strides, one longer uphill sprint and some lunges.

Cycling 1:02:00 [3]

Cycling to work. Home by way of TPSS and the pool.

Note

Crap! It's looking more and more like both Saturday and Sunday are going to have lousy weather for fieldwork. Likely not much fun for the O marathoners either, though I haven't checked the forecast for Valley Forge.

Deep Water Running 35:00 [4]

The deep water running I felt I had time for.

Cycling 57:00 [3]

Cycling to work and back.

Running 6:30 [1]

Warmup and cooldown.

Form exercises 39:00 [4]

Silly walks, 10x10 second uphill sprints, 9x100m strides, one longer hill sprint and some lunges.

Note

I'm finding all kinds of stuff I didn't know was on TV around here channel surfing lately. Last week I discover Corner Gas episodes on WGN. This week I stumble across a live-action version of Terry Pratchett's novel, Hogfather. Very faithful to the source material but with production values reminescent of Doctor Who (Tom Baker vintage stuff, not the most recent version). I haven't seen any of the animated versions of Pratchett novels but I suspect and hope they work better. Not that giving Death a voice like a lead slab falling on a stone floor is going to be easy then either.

Cycling 1:02:00 [3]

Cycling to work. Maybe I should just give up on trying to go to the pool early in the morning. Home by way of the aquatic center.

Swimming 25:00 [3]

About half various strokes and half flutterkicking.

Deep Water Running 35:00 [4]

Monday Dec 10, 2007 #

Cycling 57:00 [3]

Cycling to work and back. Nothing in the evening as I spent most of it working on Rosaryville in OCAD.
