Sunday May 18

Orienteering race 1:37:45 [4] 10.4 km (9:24 / km)
Canadian Trials Long - slightly shaky first control getting into the map, wandered and relocated on the way to 5 for a few minutes lost, and had a lot of company in failing to spike 11 and losing another three or four minutes there. Otherwise okay though by no means covering myself in glory. Fifth among people trying out so presumably good enough.

I suppose runnability and visibility in Norwegian woods will be better but, going by this weekend, I'll certainly have a lot of work to do the next couple of years if I carry on trying to go to WOC through 2010.

Saturday May 17

Event: National Capital Orienteering Festival
 
Event: ICO Dubois Ridge (Yellowwood State Forest)
 
Orienteering race 38:39 [4] 4 km (9:40 / km)
Canadian Trials Middle - big loss of contact on the way to 5 for at least a few minutes lost and also screwed up 13 cutting into the woods too soon. Will have to look at splits to see if I was bad enough to mention on anything else but those alone make it a highloy unsatisfactory race.
Orienteering race 13:59 [5] 2.3 km (6:05 / km) +115m 4:52 / km
Canadian Trials Sprint - otherwise decent race marred by overrrunning the junction of a smaller trail with a road (either that or I failed to aim off enough to the right on my way to the road). Looking like somewhat of a disappointing weekend unless the long distance tomorrow goes exceptionally well, though it should still be enough to make the team barring a disaster tomorrow or a change in our practice of sending six men the last two years.
