Running (roads) 1:09:00 [3] 8.0 mi (8:37 / mi)
(sick) shoes: Saucony Kinvara

The legs were willing but the lungs were weak today. I wanted to run fast, especially because a quarter of the way into my run the blizzard that we are supposed to get started. Whenever I started to push the pace I would start hacking like when I first started running after quitting smoking.

Running long (trails) 5:50:00 [3] 26.08 mi (13:25 / mi)
(sick)

I ran Windburn 6 hour fatass today. It's a 2.28mi loop course. I ran it as a training run. I wanted to get 20-25 miles in, so I hit my goal and I'm happy with that. Other than that, it really wasn't a stellar run. I felt pretty crappy almost the whole run, coughing, runny nose, and hurting foot. I still came in 3rd which totally shocked me considering I gave up with about 50min left on the clock, put on my carhartt bibs and walked a cool down mile. I'm really kind of hoping that stressing my foot today will push it back into healing mode again and get me over that last hump with this injury.

My legs felt dead today and my foot hurt a bit too. I expected it though. I had a pretty good workout yesterday. Now I hope I bounce back for my long run tomorrow.

Still slightly sick, just enough to make me feel a bit drained. I slept like crap last night too. I only got about 3 hours of sleep.

The foot was a little tight at the beginning of todays run, but it loosened up after a mile. I might be getting a little sick too. I hope it doesn't stick around for long.

Long run with Ben and Jim. We did a tour of the roads around Marengo with a out and back up Deerpass and Collins Rd. God, I hate that hill. It wouldn't be so bad if I did it more often, which I should.

Just did some various poses and stretches while listening to the new Decemberists album. January Hymn is very appropriate for this time of year, but I think my favorite is June Hymn. I think it will have a prominent place in a running mix soon.

Running (roads) 1:20:00 [3] 7.83 mi (10:13 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara

I should have woken up early and gone running with Ben this morning. The weather has only gotten worse as the day goes on, but I needed to pick up the car from the shop any way, so out I went. The wind was at about 20mph and flinging sleet in my face the majority of the run. That's not the only reason I was running slow, I'm still plenty sore from the race this weekend. Silly ultrarunner girl, gets herself wrecked at a mere 10k.

nice and slow recovery run. I'm really surprised how stiff and sore I am. Either that means that I ran really hard, or I'm really out of shape. I'm hoping for the latter because that means that there is room for improvement.

Running race (Trail Race) 55:28 [3] 6.2 mi (8:57 / mi)

Rock Cut 10k. Wow, it was hard. I haven't raced in 4 months and I haven't run anything that short in at least 2 years. The footing was horrible in spots, even with microspikes. I felt like I wasn't even moving forward at times. I was glad I had on microspikes for the parts where they routed us across the frozen lake. I let the spikes do the work for me on those sections. Like all of Larry's Rock Cut races, it was an exercise in complete frustration from start to finish. I have no idea why I keep going back for more. Glutton for punishment I guess.

So, we're not going to Phoenix for the race. Traveling there would have been a nightmare. Instead we're going to do the Survivor 10k at Rock Cut on Saturday. It's a consolation prize. I'm warming up to the Kinvaras. I think they just need a little breaking in. Me and Ben stopped to feed the horses some old apples I found in our fridge. They were so happy to get a treat on a cold day. Now I have a plan to make them my friends, kind of like the boy in Black Stallion.

First run in the Kinvaras. They're not spectactular, not like the fastwitches. They're a little bit heavier, but they'll work beautifully slogging through the snow. They are bright pink, so I got that going for me.

No wind today. I felt good so I decided to pick it up toward the end of my run. Lots of 'Looky Lou's' out today. There was one semi driver that just about came to a complete stop even with me just to stare. I swore at him and made wild gestures with my arms to get my point across.

took it easy today and did my sissy route (only one hill). My quad and shin have been bothering me the last couple of days. My brother says it's my gracillis muscle? I don't know if that's right or not but it hurt like hell when he worked on it today.

I loosened up my extremely tight groin/gracilis muscle a bit. I felt like my hip was sticking on every forward bend. Very weird. I'll focus more on my hips this next week for sure.

6 @ 7:53 w/ 1 mi warm cool. This week was much easier than last week, but I'm still thinking that Phoenix 1/2 might be a bit of a challenge to get a new PR, if that's even in the cards.

Running (trails) 40:00 [3] 3.5 mi (11:26 / mi)

A really pathetic excuse for a trail run. It was actually pretty icy on the trail and hard to get going because it was so icy in parts. with being on the path to recovery and the Phoenix half around the corner I didn't want to risk twisting an ankle, and I'm lazy.
