Running race (trails) 6:53:24 [4] 31.2 mi (13:15 / mi)
shoes: La Sportiva Crosslite

Mt. Cheaha 50k. I vastly underestimated this race. the trails were the most technical trails I have ever run on. There was even a section of 7 miles where it was nearly impossible to run because it was all loose rock covered in a layer of fallen leaves. I fell 3 times and tripped and caught myself before hitting the ground numerous times, but I think Ben got the bloodiest finisher award, he took a header into some briars. It was rolling hills with a lot of climbing. The last two and a half miles climbs 1200 ft straight up the side of Mt Cheaha, the highest point in AL.

Since it was my birthday I decided not to push it and just take it easy and enjoy myself, which I did mostly. It was by far the hardest race I've ever done (besides VT100).

Yoga 35:00 [3]

A combination of yoga and foam rolling. I found a way to roll out my hamstrings and I think I found 15 degrees of flexibility I didn't have before. After yoga class last night I'm convinced that all my injuries, back and hip pain come from my extremely tight hamstrings.

Yoga 1:30:00 [3]

Yoga class: we worked on strength and transitional poses, essentially holding lunges and plank for a long time. It seems that my yoga instructor always likes to throw in a strength class the week of a race when I really want some nice easy stretching. Oh well, when we were doing cobra pose, my back, which has been a spaz for the last week, suddenly stopped hurting. I couldn't be happier with that. I'm hoping it stays that way until the race on saturday.

Yoga 50:00 [3]

Yin yoga home practice from this months yoga journal. Something nice and easy to relax and release my perpetually tight areas.

Running (roads) 1:12:00 [3] 8.0 mi (9:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara

A very nonstellar run. My body knows it's taper time.
