Nice walk, mostly on the lake ice. On the way to the Sioux, there was still a thin snow cover on the ice, on the way back, it had started to melt. Spent the rest of the morning ice fishing with friend Craig, there was standing water on the ice by the time we finished around noon. A rare treat, or rather a first: was able to cross the ice on the Sioux River slough and explored the short stretch of the railroad grade between the slough and the main channel of the Sioux, which had open water.
Also noteworthy: lil' Roux tore off a toe nail on his front paw. I notice yesterday evening that it was standing off at a right angle from his paw and he was in obvious pain. It must have happened yesterday morning when he sped after a rabbit and crossed the coarse rocks of the railroad bed. When I checked this morning, it was gone, leaving only a bloody stump. He was in some discomfort during our walk but mostly happy to be out. Drenched in sweat due to the warm temps.
