Energy Park Lexington to Snelling
8:09 AM; Hamline Midway/Como Park

-16.7 °C; Clear
Beautiful morning but cold. Minimal wind just enough to make me feel the cold when it was hitting my nose from the side. Noticed some tracks along the barrier at the eastbound Snelling exit onto Pierce Butler: a deer. I've seen some live ones in the past but not so close to Snelling. Avoided deeper snow because I skipped the gaiters. Not many people out, one runner and a few fellow dog walkers.

Phalen Skate Skiing LSD 3 Laps
2:07 PM; Phalen Park Golf Course

-8.5 °C; Clear
Beautiful afternoon, not too cold, decided on Phalen for a Long Slow Distance ski. Amazing, there were a lot of skiers out, besides myself, there was only one freestyle skier besides me, everyone else strode. I also seemed to be the only skier with somewhat of a competitive agenda. So very different from the scene on the man-made loops. Conditions were great, just a few thin spots that were easy to avoid and the glide was much better than Wednesday night. Stopped during my first lap to chat with a guy who called out to me as I passed. He marveled how effortless skate skiing looked and thought he should switch. I told him what I thought and how after seven years of working diligently, it finally seems to start to make sense. Highly recommended he should take some lessons with one of the organizations around town.
