Coffee day, started at Dunn Bros for beans and then headed to the river on Summit. Hit most lights on red today, must have been slower than usual. Damp and cold, but above freezing, Belgian winter weather ...

Home later means walking in near darkness, especially when overcast like today. But it has its charms, too. Felt some snowflakes hitting my face, a welcome sensation. Decided to forego tonight's intensity workout, my body feels beat up from the weekend.

Thought about heading straight for the river but took my usual route W on 11th. No regrets, i was riding the green wave. The rest of the ride was uneventful, taking it easy, feeling tired.

Went to get lab for blood tests. surprised they weren't asking for a urine sample. GP told me later that he doesn't feel like there is much value to it unless there are risk conditions.

Rain
Started in the dry, deluged about 2/3 through. There is a certain level of fun involved in running in heavy rain, as long as you know that there are dry clotthes and a hot shower at the other end. The dogs are not happy becuase they are blocked into the back hallway until dry.

Avoided rain once more. Nice to get praise from my GP. All indicators of health are in the green.

Onion to Sioux River
7:47 AM; Washburn, WI

1.4 °C; Cloudy
Foggy morning, Hiked across the wetland again and continued on the RR grade to the Sioux River slough I love the birch trees flanking the trail on either side on this stretch. Picked up the 2 x 10 10' plank on the way back. I would have probably tried to shoulder it hadn't it been for a nail sticking out right in the middle. Not sure that I would have made it the entire way with this waterlogged piece of wood. I had brought a rope which I used to guide it in the water along the shore instead.

Bikejoring with Roux and Mellie
12:13 PM; Washburn, WI

3.4 °C; Cloudy
Took lil' Roux down the beach, he doesn't have any trouble keeping up, doesn't even breathe through his mouth but does not want to pull. He pulls all the time when he's with Mellie, so I brought Mellie out when we got back and we rode to Bayview Park. Sure enough, Roux pulled nicely. Need to figure out how to get him to pull when it's just him and me.

Kjarvick-Jammer Hill-Whiting Rds Trail Ride
7:30 AM; Washburn, WI

0.4 °C; Cloudy
Kjarvick-Jammer Hill-Whiting Rds Trail Ride. Started by riding along the beach to Friendly Valley Rd. The firm sand thanks to the current shallow drop towards the water made this possible and a rare treat. Set out to do my usual climb to the top of Mt. Ashwabay via Kjarvick and various trails. When I came past a pickup truck parked along the road I recalled that it's still firearms deer season. So I change my plan and explored some of the back roads I hadn't taken yet. Continued on Jammer Hill instead of going back on Whiting, then took the first left, a well developed logging road. Trails became ever smaller and snow ever deeper. In the end, I decided to turn back since the general thrust was taking me farther away from where I needed to go, i.e. N and W. All in all a great outing and good exercise, too, climbing a total of almost 400 m, a lot of iy through crusty snow.

Nice hike with Lynn. She was looking for a tree root she had seen on Friday and which she wanted me to carry home. We found it. Dogs made friends with a number of their brethren during this walk.

Onion to Sioux River

It rained early in the morning, waited till it let off. Went to the Sioux, the fall storms had reshaped the beach, making the grade towards the water much shallower and depositing a lot of sand and flotsam farther inland. At the mouth of the Sioux, the slough was cut off again from the lake and it was now possible to bushwhack a little ways along the shore, where a new sandbank had been formed in the alder thickets. ogs and I took full advantage of this. On the way back, we crossed the wetland on the elevated trail to the railroad grade. It helped to be wearing rubber boots for today's walk.

Trail Maintenance Battle Creek EU Turkey Day Trail Trot
6:40 AM; Battle Creek West, St. Paul

0.4 °C; Cloudy
Endurance United Turkey Day Trail Trot prep this morning. I followed Andrew's call and, together with Mike, helped finish a detour around a dead tree hanging in precarious balance over the race route. we did not want any runners and hikers to be hit by Damokles' Sword. In parting, I took a few pics of pre-race hectic. Glad to see how Central Senior High School ski team members were helping out!

No biking today because I worked from home. So I ran with the dogs. Some poop stops and putting on/off leash stops but all in all a smooth run. The steep downhill under the power pole was a little slippery but other than that, it was clear sailing.
