Highland Skijoring 3 Laps
4:55 AM; Highland 9-Hole, Saint Paul, MN

-2.7 °C; Partly cloudy
Exhilarating morning out. One other skier there when we started, was joined by a buddy. Roux and I rounded them. Great conditions, full coverage, classic track seems well set, too! so great to have real snow, no need to drive far and possible to get dogs out!

-1.3 °C; Cloudy
Mild morning, more a slow run than a walk to the Green Line today. Wanted to make that train and I did! Arrival at Nicollet Mall surprised me, was engrossed in my book. Forgot my gloves in the process, fortunately just cheap work-type ones and not expensive ski gloves ...

Sisu MYR: 5 x 5:00 L4 V2
6:36 PM; Battle Creek West, St. Paul

-1.8 °C; Clear
We were on the fields at Battle Creek Rec Ctr. After warm-up, Jake gave us the plan for the night, offering to go to Battle Creek park or stay on the field for the intervals, the park with its hills being more intense and the fields being more technical. I love the intensity but i need the technique, so I stayed on the field. Good choice, there was plenty of cardio action here. Worked on my V2 and trying to get my hips forward. Still the hardest thing for me, that stance. Skied some with Anatoly, who has such beautiful technique, and some with Karl, who does, too.

6 x 100 yd Freestyle
6:46 AM; Midway YMCA

First time I used a car to get myself to the Y for my swim, -27 °C outside.
Working on sustaining Freestyle, doing fewer reps and longer distances. Not all that long at 100 yd. The two other swimmers who joined me in the pool made me feel like a jellyfish drifting along in the current ...
12:00 warmup in BS
6 x 100 yd FS with 50 yd BS recovery
A long cool down with 4 50 yd FS speed-ups.
Felt nicely tired afterwards.

Second edition, did not take skis off at all, not even along Snelling. Only iffy piece was by Klas Field, where Hamline U had done an extra fine job sweeping the sidewalk along Snelling. A Dogs were good sports! We made many people smile.

Como Skate Skiing 3 Laps
10:38 AM; Hamline Midway/Como Park

-14.2 °C; Partly cloudy
Rode with Karl, a dad with daughter in parking lot asking about snow conditions turned out to be Ken, former colleague from West/Thomson Reuters. Had a quick chat with him after lap 1. One guy giving assessment of snow made it sound like it was ungroomed. Must have been groomed very early in the morning, the glacier had 3-4 cm of fresh snow on top. Other areas were starting to be blown over. A brisk northerly wind started to turn west as we were skiing. Skiing went pretty well but much slower than expected. Good workout, does not look likely I'll be able to do anything tomorrow with temps supposed to be around -30 C.

Today, I saw a guy in insulated coveralls, holding a ski bag on the Nicollet Mall platform. I think he just had his picture taken, possibly by his wife, not sure. Anyway, I chatted him up, he is one David B, who lives in my general neighborhood, in my age group, returning from Wirth after a ski. Pretty be dedicated to ride the bus 1 hr 10 min to Wirth and longer back ... Nice to make an acquaintance on the daily train ride.

Highland Skijoring 3 Laps
5:02 PM; Big Rivers Regional Trail, Mendota, MN

-11.3 °C; Snow
The usual, two laps with Roux, then one with Roux and Mellie. Ran into Mark Johnson when I started and another skier seemed to recognize me as Roux and I zipped by. Like Monday night, Roux was a trooper, especially during the first lap. Very fun. One encounter with an off leash dog, hardly a slowdown during our first lap, then a furiously barking dog at a distance while skijorng with both dogs, this was more of a challenge for lil' Roux. I was glad that the owner did a loop so we did not have to pass her. Dogs were very well behaved while passing the other skiers on the trail. There was 3-5 cm fresh snow on the trail, just enough to smooth it out a little but not too much to slow things down. It was snowing throughout. and we were moving! Great snow!

Had hoped for another skijor but too much going on. So took dogs out for a quick jaunt around campus. Colder.
