Light snow and snow on the ground. One of the Metro Transit people on the Nicollet Mall platform actually asked me if Roux was well behaved. She could have simply said "no dogs on the light rail," but she did not. Roux licked her hand.

Skijoring Sprint Heat 1
2:40 PM; Minneapolis-St. Paul

-11.9 °C; Cloudy
Unlucky draw, skied against Tyler, second-placed male on last week's 10 k. We did not have a chance against this pair, a powerful dog pulling like crazy. But Roux did very well, kept pulling throughout!

XC Skiing Skijor 1:49 intensity: (44 @1) + (58 @2) + (7 @3) 0.38 km (4:47 / km) +7m 4:23 / km

Skijoring Sprint Heat 2
3:00 PM; Minneapolis-St. Paul

-12.0 °C; Cloudy
We won heat #2, edging out our opponents in spite of having rope wrapped around leg. Roux's fearlessness and downhill speed made the difference.

Forgot my skis again and had to jog home to retrieve. Sheech. Roux was super good and much admired by the passengers, one of which was a foul-mouthed old lady. Even Roux was blushing.

Quick walk prior to heading for light rail. Cold but dogs were little perturbed by it. Roux's paws have really toughened up this winter.

XC Skiing Skijor 40:00 intensity: (10:00 @1) + (20:00 @2) + (10:00 @3) 4.0 km (10:00 / km)

Bummer, must have double clicked the Garmin. Estimate to have done about ten laps or about 3-4 km. Roux was great and so was the atmosphere. Ben Popp yelled encouragement to us every time we crested the bridge. Glad we tried this out before the sprints tomorrow, The turn is definitely feasible.

First I forgot my lunch and then I ran into my neighbors Sarah and Christian, en route to Mounds Park to view the lunar eclipse. I had suggested the location to Sarah. They offered me a ride to the light rail, I took them up on it. Actually had my good camera along and snapped a few pics from the platform. Caught the blue blood moon crescent over Ax-Man Surplus.

Skijoring Roux 2 Laps
5:22 PM; Highland 9 Hole

-2.9 °C; Partly cloudy
Roux went very strong for our first lap without Mellie and still decent for the second. I do have to give the little guy extra credit for having to pull Mellie while skijoring with her. Light was fading but we saw enough to see the few icy spots. After we were done, I chatted a little with Mark, who recognized us earlier. Jim's son was calling out to us that Roux was a cute dog (probably for the benefit of the young woman he was skiing with). Great conclusion to a wonderful after work workout!

Quite different from yesterday evening, overcast and blustery, in spite of it being warmer, it felt colder. Dogs were happy to play king on the hill on the big snow piles in Energy Park.

Skate Skiing Hyland 3 x 14:00 L3
6:42 PM; Hyland Park Reserve

-3.3 °C; Cloudy
Battle Creek for EU MYR did not sound too good. I would have gone but Karl suggested Hyland. I immediately agreed. Did one warm-up lap, starting without poles and adding poles for the Boulder Ridge cut-off. Then we did the full lap three times at something between L3 and L4. Felt good, though my calves wanted to cramp towards the end. I guess I am not getting enough skiing in. Excellent workout in close to perfect conditions.

First time I really missed the train by just a minute or so. Did not want to run because of the slipperiness everywhere. Walked around the platform to stay warm. Incident at the U of M: hostage-type situation at the Graduate Hotel (fka Radisson University) News cameras and police cruisers abound.

Days are getting noticeably longer. Made it home before the sun set. Sidewalks have either ice, brine or deicing salt and the snow along the tracks is crusty. Was a little worried about those tender dog paws but even Roux, who has sensitive feet seems to have toughened them up. this weekend was a very restful one, can't remember a time I did not take the dogs for at least 3 km each day, and this was three days in a row, not counting Roux's skijoring. Of course they were super excited to be out. So was I.

Train much more full than usual at the time I ride home. Sidewalks icy but the ice is too cold to be very slippery.
