Grey morning, we are laying my father-in-law to rest, later this morning so we got our walk in early. Glad that the snow-rain mix forecast did not materialize, makes for more comfortable outdoor experience. First of these was coming past a goose nest, with whoever was sitting on it nearby. Upon reviewing the photo I took later, it appeared that one of the eggs might have been hatching. Further signs of spring: there is some definite greening of some trees and Siberian corydalis, an invasive is blooming. Signs of the previous season: sumac and other shrubs stripped of their bark by starving rabbits and the dogs picking up the odd burdock burr while roaming.

Just a quick one, today. Roux was enthralled with a rabbit in the shrubbery next to the Energy Park steam plant. The rabbit was dashing in and out of the bushes, Roux behind. A problem he couldn't solve. For today, at least.

Picked a roundabout way to get my hopefully last foot x-ray and checkup. Meant to ride up Bruce Vento Trail from the nature sanctuary to Eastside Memorial Park. River flooding thwarted that idea. I boldly ignored the road and trail closed signs and made it to Jackson, where there was indeed a puddle on Warner. I had to climb over some sandbags under the RR bridge. Then towards the nature sanctuary, another roadblock which I ignored, too. A couple hundred meters past the barrier, there was indeed more of an inundation than I could handle. there were some St. Paul City workers there, one said jokingly, "not an amphibious bike, eh?" I laughed and agreed. Headed back and found my way heading N towards Phalen. Doctor said healing continues looking good, No further appointments needed unless it starts hurting. Good deal!
Windy ride home, definitely facing the wind. I must say I like this trip better on a Saturday morning without the traffic rather than on a workday afternoon. Stopping a Target for a few errands running into Jake J on the way out. Told me he's doing the Prague Marathon in a couple of weeks. Pretty exciting!

Much milder than last morning, wore my shorts and even needed to open my jacket to vent. Went through S st. Anthony on a whim, enjoyed it in spite of the potholes. Much more bike traffic than yesterday, almost crowded.

Nice ride home along with a strong southerly wind. Decided to duck into S St. Anthony, which was a good choice. Came past a site of a strange accident being cleaned up. On Vandalia, just N of Territorial, it looked like a semi had been in a collision with a Prius. The Semi had come to rest against a building and dug its wheels into the dirt, trying to back out. The Prius was already loaded on a tow truck. Weird, how you can get into an accident on this stretch with heavy traffic that's generally moving slowly.

Colin was here to go to memorial for a friend tonight and decided to join me on the walk. He looked incessantly at his phone and I teasingly asked him "you're not playing Pokemon Go, are you?" He said he was. I thought this was a craze long since forgotten but apparently it's alive and well. We had a nice conversation anyway.

Good workout during my ride in this morning, I included two high intensity segments in my ride, L4, four minutes each. Many more cyclists out, in anticipation of a sunny day. Started out cool again, with frost on cars, but all in all a very comfortable ride. Looking forward to a mild ride back home.

I gambled on the weather and had the expected outcome: I lost. I left home to the sound of distant thunder but no rain. Felt the first raindrops when I crested the UMN Transitway bridge south of the fair grounds. I started raining hard when I crossed Energy Park Drive and lighting by the time I came by the turn-off to Prospect Park. I glanced over and saw the train just arriving at the station and sprinted to the Gopher stadium Green Line Stop. Made it with time to spare but was drenched but glad to be out of the reach of lightning.
