Waimea Canyon Trail to Waipo'o Falls
11:20 AM; Waimea Canyon, Kauai, HI

22.2 °C; Partly cloudy
Hiked from Waimea Canyon Trail lot to the top of Waipo'o Falls. At the beginning, the trail was very muddy, getting steep. After we came past the jeep road, there was more traffic. Chatted with some of our fellow hikers, French Canadians, Australians, ... There is an open area above the falls affording a fantastic view of the canyon walls deep to the bottom of the side canyon we were perching above. We learned to distinguish the hikers who came like us from the trail head (very muddy shoes) from those who had come down the jeep road (medium mud) from those who had come by jeep (little or no mud). We decided to hike up the jeep road. Two boys in a pick up stopped and asked if we had come across a hunting dog. They were hunting feral pigs and lost their dog. The pooch was equipped with a gps transmitter but the canyon landscape made it near impossible to get a lock on the dog's collar via their handheld receiver. We hope they found their dog.

Kiahuna Beach to Lawa'i Bay
7:47 AM; Poipu Beach, Kauai, HI

23.1 °C; Cloudy
Wanted to check out the coast W of our place, specifically, whether the Lawa'i Bay would be accessible to walkers. This turned out to be not the case, private property with stern no trespassing signs. But I did check out some other options, Kukui'ula Harbor Beach looks like a good one for snorkeling. I also saw the Spouting Horn and came by the botanical gardens. We'll do those today. On the way back, I had some intense intervals, 4 x 3:00 at L4. Good workout with good sightseeing and recce is always awesome!

Two quick laps with Roux. Glad to make it out. Two options now to climb that first hill, either the original or hugging Edgcumbe Rd and joining back up with the trail at the Highland HS athletic fields. I wonder if this was created for the students' benefit.

Como Golf Course 3 Laps
9:26 AM; Hamline Midway/Como Park

-7.4 °C; Clear
Karl sent message about skiing Como, of course I was game. Groomer was out when we arrived, one skier ahead of us and one arriving. Como is in excellent shape for skate, classic tracks are set, maybe a little shallow in places. Two or three frozen wet spots and two spots where grass is showing, all easy to avoid. Beautiful morning for a ski.
I must be too exited when i get out, forgot to turn on Garmin, again, did so halfway through the first lap.
1 lap no-pole
2 laps full skate
Worked on V2 technique, it's coming along nicely.

Back 40 and Bayview Park Road
10:28 AM; Washburn, WI

-2.1 °C; Snow
Wading through knee to waist-deep snow to first check on trail cam. As suspected, it was completely encrusted in snow, I cleaned it up. Then I went to check in with some neighbors. No response at Mike and Paula's, probably the bell not working because of the power outage. The by Jill and Jim, they are waiting for the plow, like us.
