Mt. Ashwabay Classic Workout
8:36 AM; Washburn, WI

-9.0 °C; Snow
Couple of cm of fresh fluff on tracks and trail, -10 C worked well with my Swix V30 kick wax. One skate skier started with me, saw one guy with dog (not skijoring) skiing the dog trail. Other than that, I skied in splendid isolation. The pretty strong snow abated 20 minutes into my ski. Lovely scenery. Not sure I have done this loop counterclockwise before.

Bayview Beach

Ice was super slippery in places, covered with just a thin layer of blown snow. Even the dogs had a hard time staying on their paws.

XC Skiing Skate race 34:16 [5] 10.0 km (3:26 / km)
shoes: Fischer RCS CarbonLite Skate

May have been my best Book yet, not the fastest but the best by placement. Started from my usual spot in the first row, near the luminary side of the trail. After the start, saw as usual the field dash away from me. But then, finding my rhythm, slowly start picking off a few of those who got going too fast. By km 4 or 5, being with a group and staying with them. Km 7 and up, checking out weak links and picking them off, the last two k, trying to hang on with the three to four skiers just ahead of me. Official result:
Overall Position: 45
Age Group Position: 6
Gender Position: 43

Last official Endurance United workout for the fiscal year: Birkie is at the end of next week, that means taper from now on. Waxed Swix Blue Extra, which seemed to be just what the doctor ordered. Was a little worried about my lungs and coughed hard after being done with the warm-up. From then on, it went better. did the first interval rather slowly and then worked with Bart R. He kept up a good pace, don't recall ever having classic skied that loop this fast. We decided to take it down a notch but still kept a good pace. We did an easy ski through the dark woods after finishing the intervals and I did one more loop on top with Karl before heading out. Good last workout

Highland Skijoring Roux 2 Laps
11:34 AM; Hamline Midway/Como Park

-6.0 °C; Clear
Two nice laps with Roux, who did very well. snow was soft, not too much so, had maybe just groomed once. Took the extension to the top, will take advantage of it as long as it is available. Second lap, roux got a second wind from a competitor on the trail, first, before the extension loop, and because the other team took to normal route, a second time. Roux was easy to control and the other team moved to the side to let us pass. Lungs are still raw, but I recovered nicely from the cold air.

Mild, but wind, this morning's effort and the flu aftermath chilled me.
