Hyland Man-made Skate Workout
8:04 AM; Hyland Park Reserve

-5.0 °C; Cloudy
Karl contacted me to see if I wanted to go skiing. said he had been on Friday and that it was good. Had just put my ski stuff away yesterday but did not need much persuasion on his part to join. The track was well groomed and fast, had some of my best times on the Boulder Ridge cut-off loop. Saw Jamie and Ron after lap one, Odd when we were leaving. Good workout.

Home to Post Office
2:09 PM; Minneapolis-St. Paul

-0.6 °C; Partly cloudy
James asked me to drop a package at the post office, thinking I would take the car. Decided to make this today's dog walk. Even though they did not get any off leash time, they enjoyed unaccustomed scents. Roux started hobbling just a few steps from home. When I checked I immediately found the cause: a tiny thorn embedded in his right metacarpal pad. It was easy to pull out and he was a happy pup again.

Inaugural bike ride 2020! Needed to get color swatches for kitchen cabinet painting at Menards and groceries from Target. At Target, someone noticed the Birkie bag I was carrying for the groceries. Uneventful ride!

Had neighbor dog Kiko along. Tried him off leash, but all he wanted to do is run home. Had to jog after him myself to keep up and eventually catch him. In the meantime, poor Mellie was lagging behind while Roux thought this was great fun.

Jungel Gardens Hike
1:45 PM; Avery Island, LA

22.2 °C; Cloudy
Nice Hike around Jungle Gardens after visiting the Tabasco factory gift shop. Counted 15 alligators. High point was the snowy egrets at the bird city. Also some anhingas, which I thought looked like an unfamiliar cormorant. We were walking, most people (there weren't that many) were driving.

Breaux Bridge Run
8:13 AM; Breaux Bridge, LA

11.9 °C; Clear
Very flat and featureless, glad about 2/3 of the run was outside of town. Tasted the dust kicked up by passing cars. So different from running even in the flat parts of the Upper Midwest. Since this was pretty much a rectangle with 2.5 km sides, I could see the left and right edges of the road meet at the horizon. A little hard on the morale but good to build sisu! I do love the street names in French!

Bayou Teche Paddle
12:31 PM; Breaux Bridge, LA

21.2 °C; Partly cloudy
Had a very nice paddle on our host's sit-top kayaks. They were easier to paddle and to navigate than expected, thanks to calm water. There was a current, not noticeable from the banks. So we paddled downriver with a headwind and against the current with a tailwind. In addition, I was helping Lynn by towing her. Good workout, good impression of small town life along the bayou and friendly waves from the residents.
