The longest portage today was 1800 m. I carried the canoe and a heavy pack, a total of about 60 kg. It was not a test of strength but to overcome the pain of the pack straps and canoe yoke cutting into my shoulders.

Short paddle from long portage to camp, just enough to loosen sore shoulder pressure points. Checked out camp with 5 rating, was occupied. Found adjacent unrated camp very pleasant.

33.5 km paddled in 5 hours. Two portages totaling 650 m. Perfect weather, almost hot. We are getting used to the effort of paddling hard and portaging. I carried both heavy packs while Karl carried to canoe. Found both packs quite uncomfortable to lug. Will carry one pack and canoe next day.

17 km paddled in 2:30 hours. Very windy and wavy on Crane Lake, in addition motorboats with large wakes. Took on water over the bow at two occasions. Once on Little Vermillion Lake, things were much better. getting used to paddling.
