Orienteering (Bike-O) 1:36:19 [2] 14.03 km (6:52 / km) +208m 6:23 / km

Bike-O
Larose Forest
Short, 12 controls, 7.175 km (from MeOs)
Set by Adrian and controlled by Benoit. Colleen helped out at registration and took over while Kumiko was on course....~ 30 people showed up...One from New York and another from Delaware!

Rainy, wet and cold.....but this was awesome (to use Adrian's words)
This was a blast...Adrian lent me his bike with a map holder so I got the full experience.

I took the first three controls cautiously getting used to the bike and the map....I gotta get gear like this!....I'm sure I would have either died or re-broken my axle had I tried this course on purp.

Near 1 I probably walked ~ 10 m in the forest because the trail I was on disappeared and I could see the trail I wanted to be on just ahead. (now I see this was as shown on the map)
This was a similar situation SE of 6 though I was sure the trail I wanted was on the map and I could see the trail I wanted ahead. Here it was quite overgrown so I played devil's advocate an took a loop trail to bypass the area probably added 1.5 minutes here...same thing near 11 but no trail on the map...in hindsight it would have been better to take the more technical trail south of 7 into 11. I walked through the jump area near 9 because I was just to chicken and took a deceiving technical trail out of 9 to 10...This was fun but it would have been a fr better route choice to go back through the jump and to the main road to 10...It was disappointing to get to 12 and realise that there was no 13 :(..

This is a very nice area...so nice to be away from rock!...In some ways it reminds me of the Limmerick Forest we did some long runs in....Now I'm hooked on Bike-O's

Orienteering 2:50:45 [2] 12.01 km (14:13 / km) +322m 12:32 / km
shoes: Inov 8 Oroc 340 GTX

Defy the Gats Rogaine...Greenhouse Gasses ....3 hr
Start at P17.....bussing from Wakefield Centre..
We had an ambitious route plan again (for 22 of the 30 controls) Unlike last year we had errors and hesitations but we got 15 controls (cf 17 last year)...Trails were harder to run and see this year...a lot of forest running too...Given the greater distance between controls I think we did awesome.....I think we came in 6th in the Co-ed...Still love doing these with with Colleen....and were still married :)…!!!!
Only Alex/Riel/Steffan L. cleared the map (6h) but they were 5 minutes over...testament to a greater challenge this year.
All the three cold weather mechanical things I experimented with last year worked really well but once again no need for it

Andrew did the 3hr solo again...mid pack.

Maybe the 6 next year??? ...Probably not ...but that's OK...Colleen talked to our nemesis' from last year (David/Jennifer... and they found the move up to 6 h hard...and they're a few years younger than us so.....)
