CSM Virtual Tourer Leg 5: 15.4 km Fitzroy PP -Long Course & Skiing Top-up

Part 1: MapRun O-course: Long Course 23 controls -5.5 km by the line (~9 km skiing)
Took awhile for the start to engage on the Maprun App so I almost gave up on it. Skied almost to control 1 and then figured I better hear the start beep at least so went back and reset the app. This time it worked fine with beeps at all controls...except control 7. I thought this was an anomaly but was very sure I hit the control. Even the track pretty much shows I was there. Certainly other controls visited were just as close, beeped and the track showed either off or right through the centre.. I'm pretty sure the gps was a problem here because the centre of the circle is at the top of the ridge and I was at the top of the ridge. Most of the narrow tracks and snowmobile trails were all snowed in so they were difficult to see and ski. Because of this I overshot 14 and didn't see the track I wanted for 18 so I had to pick an overshooting route that came back to the control a bit lost there. (Just ahead I saw Colleen and en route to 20 crossed paths with Andrew)...Also a bit lost when I second guessed my self between 9 and 10 because I was in the zone and missed the hydro lien doubled back to see where I was. The finish control was finnicky like the start control so a bit of skiing about to activate it on the phone....
Part 2: Topping up to 15 km for the CSM leg
Checked the watch and ~ 1:25/~9.6 km after the problems at the start and skiing the course went right into it since we set 2 hours as the "do your own thing limit". Met Colleen leaving the finish and skied a bit with her the loops in the Campground and up to Cannon Smith and back to the lot to clear 15 km.

Beautiful day starting at ~-12C then finishing ~-8C...The warming and low power mode for the phone worked great so that part of the experiment went well...Home to meet Tash who skied with the Grahams a bit on their first 50 km day of the CSM CdB.

Sunny 11:30 start morning-aft ski with 15 cm + on the ground and groomed (only one track east of TCT) on the loop Colleen and I did for section 1.. Feeling it from the Trump point ...Tired from yesterday. Reported temp (-8C with a -14C w/c) ...Way over dressed at had to strip down at 3 km...Sun really warm!...Just enough time to prep for work and be off. 5:30 of stopping in here.

Snow Management 1:20:00 [0]

Clearing the main areas of the 15 cm (and counting) of snow measured n the back that fell last night. 80 Big Berthas, sinking to knee level at the dump site while accompanied by Hazel and greeted by Colleen and her Mardi Gras pancakes made for a good start to the day.
No watch so no records.

Finnish Woolsock Running 8:14 [3] 1.09 km (7:32 / km) +1m 7:30 / km
shoes: Bola-CT-Wal-Wool

Tried a new running variation this morning:
given Colleen's instagram/news feed

Thought I'd start with 1 km given the history with my frozen feet and that the smallest contested distance seems to be 3km...Maybe I'll work up to that.
Actually is fun but I think this morning's conditions are the only one's where this might be safe and comfortable..
For now...all's good
Good warm up anyway

Running 56:03 [3] 8.93 km (6:17 / km) +18m 6:13 / km

Really heavy snow everywhere except the good old reliable horseshoe...Finished up a another 56...pace irrelevant today

X-C Skiing 1:55:14 [2] 16.21 km (7:07 / km) +77m 6:57 / km

CSM Touring Virtual Leg 3: 16.2 km at Wesley Clover and the Winter West Trail
Ski with Natasha, Colleen and Robbie starting at 4:30 at the Kanata Nordic start area. Wesley Clover trails while nicely up and down did not have the best grooming, mostly due to heavy weekend club traffic and thinning snow base. Colleen did spot a deer in here though. So we switched to the Equestrian Park part of the trail (which was great) and the free part of the winter west trail. Contrary to the Loch Lommond song, taking the low road did not get Colleen and I to the meet up junction before Robbie and Natasha in our impromptu "race". After leaving the loop we went west on the trail towards the March farm. Robbie spotted a deer at Watts creek on the way back. At the Carling spur junction head lights went on as we finished down the TCT and used the Dana trail spur back entrance to the KN parking lot....
Andrew did a walk and run while we skied and had the car nice and toasty for when we arrived. NIce temp aft/eve ~ -4C.
Chinese food for all in the nick of time upon return....:)
