UKOL at Hurstwood. Short Brown (M50L), 9.0km, 275m.
Nice day, good area, decent map and pretty good planning. Somewhat over-long though which was blatantly obvious as soon as course lengths were published. Short Brown would have made a decent Black course.
Very enjoyable day out nevertheless. I struggled a bit with the 1:10k map (other vets courses had 1:7.5k). Small miss at #1. Poor route choice to #4 (misread pits adjacent uncrossable wall as crossing points). Main mistake though was missing the best route to #7. I stayed south of the reservoir in the man-eating tussocks. Track to the north probably a couple of mins quicker. Pleased to keep going strongly to the end, helped by steadily passing other people on my course.
Bad tweak to my left Achilles towards the end. Ice once home.
Win by 10 mins from Quentin. Yeah! Although to be fair to him he's probably still feeling the effects of last week's Mountain Trial. 3rd 25 mins behind. ...

Edit: I also got my biggest ranking score of the year. It must have been an urban race in disguise ;-)
