Orienteering race 1:22:03 [4] 7.5 mi (10:56 / mi)
shoes: Innov8 X-Talon (3)

Welsh League Day 2, Newborough Forest.
Brown course, 9.3km, 375m.
Another long morning of Team Managing. I was feeling physically and mentally very tired before I started. I was sorting travel arrangements until the moment I entered the start box. Not surprisingly I missed #1 as I hadn't even thought about actual orienteering until I dived into the wrong block of forest. I continued in scrappy fashion through the first half of the course. Then I started to tire badly and was reduced to little more than a jog by the end. By the time I finished it was well over 7 hours since I'd eaten.
Still a very enjoyable outing. An opportunity not to be missed (and good practice for Culbin next w/e).
I do need to think about a better solution to reading the fine detail on maps of this complexity though. I have realised that I'm not reading the fine detail in the circle; rather just navigating to the circle then hunting for the feature described on the control descriptions. Once upon a time I used to have a mental picture of the control. If the elites are using magnifyers then maybe I should be as well??

Orienteering race 1:18:37 [4] 7.5 mi (10:29 / mi)
shoes: Innov8 X-Talon (3)

Welsh League, Newborough Forest.
Brown course, 9.3km, 245m.
After a morning of TMing the England SHI team I got to have a run myself. Cracking area. A few bits overgrown with brambles but less felling than I had expected. Got caught in head high brambles at #3. Missed #4 by a couple of minutes. Another 1 min miss at #10 and in the circle at #16. Otherwise quite happy with my run. I guess 3 mins down on Clive is better than last week.
