Orienteering race 1:04:10 [3] 5.0 mi (12:50 / mi)
shoes: VJ Integrator (blue)

Edinburgh Big Weekend day 2. Arthur's Seat.
Blue course, 5.8km 390m.
Still very cold with compacted snow on the paths having turned to ice. Not ideal conditions for racing. Started steadily and was going ok as far as #14. Lost track of where I was on the way to #15 and struggled to relocate. Lost around 4 mins here. The last few legs were less enjoyable and I minced my way around the Seat to the finish. Not surprised to be 5 mins down on Martin and lucky still to be 2nd M50.
Most importantly Achilles coped without much discomfort.
Results (looks like I gave up after #15):

Saturday Jan 20 #

(rest day)

Lots of mincing around the pavements of Edinburgh.

Friday Jan 19 #

11 AM

Gym 20:00 [2]

Garage circuits. Avoided the most dynamic exercises to avoid stressing my Achilles.

Thursday Jan 18 #

(rest day)

L Achilles not right. Not really sore first thing (passed the stair test) but not completely pain free. Just slightly tender to touch down the outside edge. Previous experience suggests I need to carefully manage it. I've booked to see Richard next week and will only run once (Sunday) at the weekend. Rest in the meantime to let it settle.

Wednesday Jan 17 #

11 AM

Trail running 1:10:00 [3] 7.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: VJ Integrator (blue)

Blackpool Bridge circuit in wet snow.
L Achilles getting quite sore towards the end. Ice after.

Cycling 1:00:00 [2]

Couldn't face the outside world so back on the turbo whilst watching Spine race tracking.
1 hour including 5 x 5 mins efforts.
Grim outside here. Can't imagine what it's like on Cross Fell.

Monday Jan 15 #

7 PM

(rest day)

Pilates for beginners. Definitely doesn't count as training but hopefully might help with flexibility and (as we progress) core stability.
L Achilles feeling slightly sore today. Probably slightly overdid it at the weekend.
