Orienteering race 36:58 [4] 4.0 mi (9:15 / mi)
shoes: Innov8 X-Talon (3)

JK Day 2, Middle Distance, Windmill Hill.
M55L, 5.4km 175m.
Mostly good but some time lost at #7, #13 and #14.
#7 I chose the western crossing point but didn't execute the route to it very well and got caught in the peninsular between the ponds in the canal. -30s maybe.
#13 in oxygen debt at the top of the climb I got confused and turned left instead of right. Corrected quickly but probably another 30s binned.
#14 I got onto the spur north of the correct one. Realised pretty quickly so only lost roughly another 30s.
Struggling on the hills in the heat (24 degrees) but I guess it was the same for everyone. Happy to take the win and pleased for Phil to finish 2nd. Tomorrow is another day. 10km will seem a long way in this temperature.

Orienteering race 53:48 [4] 4.5 mi (11:57 / mi)
shoes: VJ Integrator (blue)

CLARO event, Dob Park and Snowden Crags.
Brown course, 6.4km 260m.
Had a long wait for a map because CLARO had only printed 15 Brown maps! The new extension was a little disappointing. A few interesting crags but the mapping didn't do it justice (e.g. the runnability mapping was the wrong way round: fast dead bracken mapped as walk, waist high heather as fast run). I hadn't run at Dob Park before and found it a reasonably interesting (if tough) area. So, all in all, just about worth the trip.
Because of the wait for maps there was a group of half a dozen of us all going off at one minute intervals at the end of the start block. I had Andy Thorpe behind me and was quite pleased to hold him off despite the high visibility over the first 5 controls. I really only lost time on #8 where I was too far right and had to bail out to the path to relocate. No more than a minute binned. Happy enough with that and, most importantly, still in one piece for the JK.
4th place, 7 mins down on Aidan Rigby. Results:

Trail running 15:00 [2] 1.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: VJ Integrator (blue)

Some jogging around to keep warm whilst waiting for re-cycled maps and a brisker run to the far start.
