Mountain Bike 2:10:00 [2] 20.0 mi (6:30 / mi)

Finally stopped raining so ventured out to Glentress. Along the old railway from Innerleithen then the Red trail at Glentress. Unfortunately one section was closed for maintenance but the rest was fantastic single track. Highly recommended. A big big climb to the highest point so great aerobic training also. The forest looked as though it would be a decent O area too. Well, better than Whinlatter....
About 10 miles there and back on the flat railway path and 10 miles of hilly off-road.

Walking 1:00:00 [1] 7.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

Walk with Janet along part of the Southern Upland Way. St Mary's Loch to Traquair. Good brisk pace averaging 3mph due to daughter imposed deadline. Walking time 2.5 hours.
3 PM

Mountain Bike 35:00 [2] 8.5 mi (4:07 / mi)

Back around the road to pick up the car. Very reminiscent of the Trough of Bowland. Caught by a shower.

Steady lap of Digley to see what state my body is in. Actually not as bad as feared. General tiredness but Achilles good. Hopefully will be ok so long as I don't do anything stupid like last August.

Reflections on the 6 Days:
Overall results:
https://www.scottish6days.com/results/2019/multist...
Not sure if these are 'official' or not, but they show Alistair and I tied for 1st place. Not what was announced at the prizegiving...

Either way I can't help being a little disappointed with my performances. 2 great runs (Day 3 and 5), otherwise pretty mediocre. Al definitely deserved the overall win for a number of reasons:
1. He was more consistent over the week.
2. I benefited from the mangling of the Day 2 results (and my extra late start).
3. He ran Day 4 and then did Day 5 on his own, while I got lucky with a gamble route choice through the dark green.

However I'd have taken 2nd overall at the beginning of the week.

My Achilles is still not right. I've been taking 2 ibuprofen before running every day and the soreness has increased as each day has gone on. I now need to give it a chance to settle down properly.
8 AM

Road bike 1:25:00 [2] 22.0 mi (3:52 / mi)

To Penistone (for breakfast) and back.

Orienteering race 34:16 [4] 3.0 mi (11:25 / mi)
shoes: VJ Integrator (blue)

Day 6, Grandtully.
M50L, 4.0km 100m.
So, before I started I had calculated (by the published rules) that I couldn't finish worse than first equal. For me not to win outright either Al L or Niklas would need to win today. I could only improve my score if I finished either first or second.

I started ok (except for a little detour en route to #1) and was a minute up on Al at #10. Then it fell apart. I lost confidence on the way to #11 but nearly rescued things when I found the control in the pit just short of our control. However I still missed the control (I ended up in the clearing on the NW edge of the circle). Not finding the control I lost confidence that I was anywhere near the right place. After a short wander around I decided my race was over (i.e. no chance of 1st or 2nd ). Bailing out to relocate I bumped into Marky and decided to follow him to the control. I then jogged the rest of the course. Al ran well to take the win.

At the prizegiving I was wondering if there was sufficient room on the top of the podium for both me and Alistair only to be announced in 2nd place. Apparently the organisers made up a new rule to split ties using your 5th best score. Whatever. ...
