Note

time to get more rigorous again...

Note
(injured)

knee still jacked up today. very little swelling, but instant pain trying to bend my knee or touching it on the outside. lots of RICE today. already feeling antsy to do something and this just started. going to be a looong recovery period.

Event: PCT 50 Miler

6 AM

Running race 4:00:00 [3] 17.8 mi (13:29 / mi) +4300ft 10:58 / mi
(injured)

DNF.

around mile 7 or 8 i noticed my L knee feeling strange going downhill. a bit of pain, but more discomfort than anything. focused on powering through b/c the pain was most intense in the muscles below and around my knee (behind the knee, down the front of the shin).

by mile 11 i was doing a run / walk combo b/c intense pain would flair up about ever 30 steps or so. walked it out for a bit and then started running again. i would run feeling smooth and then something would just change around my knee and things got very painful. sharp, stabbing type of pain.

got to the point that about 1/4 mile from the mile 13 aid station that it brought me to the ground in pain. at the aid station, i stretched, massaged, and did everything i could think of to make it better.

kept going and within another 1/2 mile i was brought to the ground again my intense pain, but this time it was the result of a loud "POP" in my knee that instantly made me stop running and do everything i could to avoid hitting it on the ground or use that foot again.

there weren't any cars at the previous aid station and they told me there were EMTs at the next one. i grabbed a stick to lean on and slowly walked at ~40 mins per mile to w/in 1 mile of todd's cabin before a search and rescue team took me off the trail. i guess the other runners talked too much about how i was suffering / struggling on the trail.

bummer b/c i was feeling really good outside of these issues. don't know what this means for the rest of my season, but going to the doc on tuesday to find out more. hopefully nothing too serious.
