snowshoeing race 3:27:44 [1] 14.37 km (14:27 / km)

Stars Race snowshoe portion. Gargantuan fail.

Was suppose to be a fun day out with Lisa Davey. From team third eye, whom I met at week one of Frontier Mexico Training camp 3 years ago.
We finally got together for a race. But so much for fun.
I knew she'd be slower, but it was really slow & I killed her in the first 5 minutes. Shooting my usual tactic of following the crowd to the first CP.
Lisa being a good navigator even lost it. We were lost just getting the first one. This got more and more frustrating as the day progressed.

We got a baring for a couple of the blue points & then would loose it again. Getting completely lost. There were so many trails you couldn't figure out where we were on the map. We began to just take barings and bushwhack.

I wouldn't be so frustrated if I felt I learned some good nav lessons, but I don't think I even did that. Any confidence I may have built up from the other Thomass races were shattered. Really worried about Storm the Trent Solo now.

x-country skiing race 1:04:49 [1] 5.35 km (12:07 / km)

We got back to the wax hut as Harps was leaving with his wine.
And after a good laugh at our epic failure and a slice of pizza we headed out for the ski-o portion.

Which should have been easy along the trails. Yeah, right.

Got CP2 easily & thought we were on the right track, alas no such luck.

We pretty much took the philosophy of "were are going to ski around for an hour and if we see a CP, bonus."

We got told a lot we were going the wrong way on the trail.

Found CP3 & headed back.

Note

As much as the race was a failure, nav wise.

I'm glad I did it.

I always meant to check out Wasaga Nordic Centre and never got a chance.
It is a great location & I'll definitely be back.

Plus, best post race pizza ever. Yum!

Next time Nick Duca, sets the course I'm going to be more on my toes. :-)

Thanks everyone that organized & helped!!!

Strength training 1:00:00 [4]

I have to put this as a 4. It was nuts. Hard, quick, circuits on the gravity machine. Wow!
