Road running warm up/down 9:00 [2] 1.2 mi (7:30 / mi)

Jog plus some faster bursts. A bit psyched out by all the fast looking people and their eagerness to get to the startline early

Road running race 34:57 [5] 6.24 mi (5:36 / mi) +100m 5:20 / mi

Great Ethiopian run. What a race; fully packed field, hot weather and high altitude. Started at the back of the elite field so I wouldn't get trampled when the gun went. Was strange being so far back in a race. Once I got over the line I got in to a decent rhythm until a crowd of fun runners decided to join the race just in front of where a group of us (slower elites) were. Had to slow down lots and find a way through the mass of walkers and joggers. After that it went well and I caught up with some faster runners and began to move through the field. The race went by so quickly and before long I was on the finish straight. Nobody overtook me in the last 5 miles so I must have beaten some reasonably good runners. Was though going on the uphill second half, couldn't push too hard without feeling the effects of the thin air. My position was around 230th and I was ahead of all the other Europeans I think. It was great to have an unlimited number of people to catch. Need to come back to try and break the top 100! I think the top 30 guys ran under 30mins which was amazing on that course

Hill running 16:39 [2] 1.46 mi (11:24 / mi) +90m 9:34 / mi

An attempt to do a run from Haile Gebrselassie's house. Had eaten too much earlier and felt sick after the first steep climb so ran back. Got a nice view of the city at least

Out along through the meadow then along the river for a few miles and back again

Trail running 1:02:40 [3] 7.44 mi (8:25 / mi) +250m 7:38 / mi

Nice run in the Entot national park. Some good hilly trails but even tougher going, starting at 3000m. Was with a small group and managed not to get dropped! This is the place in Addis to train. Bumped in to the Bekele brothers and Gebrselassie was also there
5 PM

Trail running 53:57 [3] 7.04 mi (7:40 / mi) +60m 7:28 / mi

Another run from the city. More crowds and traffic. Found a nice track which seemed quiet until 10 dump trucks came flying past. Eventually got a decent path near the airport. Really feeling the thin air when running fast. Managed to win a race against a random kid in the street, will be the only race I win here!

Trail running 1:31:05 [3] 11.5 mi (7:55 / mi) +480m 7:01 / mi

First run from Addis Ababa. Pretty awful for the first and last 2 miles through the city. Too many people and cars. Got on to some nice hilly trails through woods and fields. Saw some cool things on the way, such a cool place. Altitude makes it hard going, lowest point was 2400m!
