12 PM

Hill running 2:22:11 [3] 15.17 mi (9:22 / mi) +950m 7:51 / mi

A few times up Scolty and once up Goauch. Some bits were good underfoot and some were deep slushy snow that was hard to run on. In a few days things will be much better. Seem to be climbing ok. Legs feeling quick on the flat bits too

8 AM

Hill running 1:25:26 [3] 9.28 mi (9:12 / mi) +620m 7:37 / mi

Three climbs of Scolty. Snow melted slightly then frozen so some dodgy bits on the way over. Hard going on the hill but legs feeling strong
4 PM

Trail running 29:47 [3] 4.09 mi (7:17 / mi) +90m 6:49 / mi

Two laps of Craibstone woods through the slush and some strides.

Trail running 1:22:12 [3] 10.15 mi (8:06 / mi) +350m 7:19 / mi

From Cults to Craibstone for an exam. Conditions were awful in the forest and on Brimmond hill. Loads of mud under the snow, most of the paths hidden and the pavement section was deep icey slush. It was snowing heavily after the first 10 mins which made it even worse!
6 PM

Road running 16:43 [3] 2.7 mi (6:12 / mi) +50m 5:51 / mi

Warm up loop round the town then 8 x 20s strides and a short cool down. More of the pavements clear now

Trail running warm up/down 54:38 [3] 7.55 mi (7:14 / mi) +120m 6:54 / mi

Warm up through Corsee woods. Cool down un through Hill of Banchory paths and back along railway line. Compacted snow nice to run on but lots of slow going bits through soft stuff

Road running intervals 13:58 [5] 3.0 mi (4:39 / mi) +30m 4:31 / mi

12 x 400m (400m recovery jog). Struggling to find somewhere to do a session, too much snow and slush on roads or paths. Went to Hill of Banchory where some bits were clear. Did 2 slower ones on snow but the rest were on much clear tarmac. Legs felt really good and fast.
6 PM

Trail running 36:03 [3] 5.02 mi (7:11 / mi) +80m 6:51 / mi

Through the woods with the head torch. Felt full of energy and fast. Can't believe how slow the run actually was!

Hill running 1:59:58 [3] 12.0 mi (10:00 / mi) +850m 8:12 / mi

Four times up Scolty. Had to make a path through the soft snow which was hard going, like running up a giant sand dune. After a few climbs it was easier. Snow on the lower paths knee deep where undisturbed. Was really tired by the end

Trail running 15:42 [3] 2.2 mi (7:08 / mi) +40m 6:45 / mi

Woke up to a good bit more snow, all roads and pavements well covered. Did a short lap round corsee woods to see what it was like, not much use for any fast running

Road running tempo 40:05 [4] 7.1 mi (5:39 / mi) +60m 5:30 / mi

Had to resort to a road run but even that wasn't great. All the pavements had a few inches of wet snow. Made it a hard workout. Felt good even though it was impossible to run very fast
5 PM

Trail running 30:24 [3] 4.16 mi (7:18 / mi) +60m 7:00 / mi

Short run round corsee. Lots of snow and plenty falling

Monday Jan 21, 2013 #

7 AM

Trail running 28:43 [3] 4.02 mi (7:09 / mi) +60m 6:50 / mi

Back to the snow. Pre exam run round corsee woods. Calfs a bit tight but legs not too bad after the race
5 PM

Hill running 1:17:15 [3] 9.12 mi (8:28 / mi) +600m 7:02 / mi

Three times up Scolty with the head torch and strides. Started to snow really heavily during the run and I could barely see anything. Legs felt good on climbs.
