Road running warm up/down 42:00 [2] 5.5 mi (7:38 / mi) +30m 7:31 / mi

Long warm up in Preston Park, Brighton, mostly on grass and paths. Did a longer than usual cool down along the sea front after the race. Needed to loosen off the legs

Road running race 30:01 [5] 6.24 mi (4:49 / mi)

Brighton 10k. Planned to head down and race against some top guys to try and get a good PB and possibly a sub 30 time. Went off very fast to hang on with the lead pack and shelter from the breeze. Realised it was two pacemakers plus Nick McCormick and me so I was a bit out my depth, Nick being a London Olympic 5k runner! They pacers dropped out after 3.5k then it was hard to stay with Nick. From 4k to 7k I was on my own in 2nd place and I tried hard to keep the pace high although I lost some valuable time. Got caught at 7k by Adam Hickey so sat behind him and got dragged round until 9k. Tried to up the pace as I knew it would be very tight to break 30. Unfortunately Adam increased the pace far too much for me to handle and I got dropped with 700m to go. The last part was grim. I could see the clock ticking down and I pushed as hard as I could but the legs wouldn't speed up. It was so close but in the end 2 seconds too slow! 3rd place was unexpected but I'd rather have been 10th and done 29.59. 8 seconds down on 2nd and 50s down on 1st. Still a good experience

Usual warm up route in Finzean. Another misty grey day with light drizzle

Road running intervals 8:55 [5] 2.0 mi (4:27 / mi)

8 x 400m, 2min jog. Pretty happy with this mini session, legs accelerating well and feeling good. Short reps means I can use the flattest bit of road with no significant gradients

Hill running 43:41 [3] 5.13 mi (8:31 / mi) +470m 6:38 / mi

Peter Hill run. Started off feeling a wee bit tired but then was fine the rest of the run. Very misty and cold on the top half
