orienteering race 55:49 [3] 7.0 km (7:58 / km) +360m 6:21 / km
slept:8.5 shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#4 - blue)

More hills - 100m climb to the start :)

Fairly clean run but I think I made a bad route choice decision on 2-3, it will be interesting to see the splits. Finished 7th overall I think. [Splits show I lost 3 minutes plus. Dang]

Beer was good, weather was great. Les picked up 3rd. The two Swedes in my class got 2nd & 3rd but the local guy smacked everyone each day.

No idea how far I ran, but Kev managed just under 10 k for the 5.4km course. Bit worried about him, but he seemed cheerful enough to get a beer on the finish line.

Note

ITBS flared a little on the way round. Had ibuprofen before and a while after, it hasn't gone to the acute state it got in last weekend, but Charlie and flat terrain probably made me run faster.

Exciting day - put in GPS ref for event and the phone got me from Vienna to within "2km" (must have been closer, I could hear the low volume commentary)... at that point what had become a track became nothing on both the screen and real life.

Anyway finally got to the event. Great weather, big field, chocolate shop, beer and goulash available. Woods very pretty but steep.

No problem with ITBS, a week of stuffing myself, no exercise and mini-dosing ibuprofen seems to have done the trick.

Ran OK, not real fast but no significant mistakes. 10 minutes down and in a big pack in about 7th place.
GPS said 188m climb, contour counting gives 320, Kev's GPS 326. Started after 1st control I think.

Got to give Annariitta Kottonen a lift afterwards - 3rd place WOC 1983 - (edging Brit Volden by 10 seconds, in an age when medals were 6 x as hard to come by). She was running W55, says she still runs Venla and then a leg of Jukkola afterwards.
