orienteering 1:20:18 [3] 10.36 km (7:45 / km) +191m 7:06 / km
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212 (#7 Black)

Hill End state league, long. M50A

Nowhere near so clean today, a return to usual early season form.
#1 & #2 were in the very hard semi-open area where I cam undone in 2017.
Stopped well short for #1, then was a little high at 2. Thought I had a good route to 3, but should have used more road.

#5 was more typical, I'm standing on the lip of a steep earthbank/re-entrant right over the control, which I haven't seen, but which is 3m below me. For some reason I'm looking for a spur.

6-9 were OK, should have pushed myself harder on the long leg and was way too conservative crossing the last big creek.

#10 I made a parallel error, very dumb, just tired I guess. Took a while to realise.

Then OK for 11-13, stuffed 14 a little in the mining.

Way off the pace. Maybe stick to M55, at least when the courses are over-length.

orienteering race 34:53 [3] 4.96 km (7:02 / km) +115m 6:18 / km
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212 (#7 Black)

Middle distance Hill End, gold mining
Got some half glasses thingies for my M55 debut.

Unusually for start of season, I had a pretty clean run. 4 hour drive, zero warm up, and it was cold, so I did go out of the start quite slowly.
Lost time (I think) at 5 (over-conservative route) and 6 (poor route), then a real mistake at 8 where I was too far W, looking forward to RG to see what I did.

Won M55A, M50A, M45A, by a smidge.

Note

Physio: Slight easing of back stiffness and ITB tightness. More exercises.
5 PM

orienteering 9:35 [3] 1.48 km (6:28 / km) +13m 6:12 / km
shoes: Asics GT 1000 #6 (black)

Ran round the "Mini" course at SSS. Managed to punch a wrong last control (I did think it wasn't as I mentally pictured), thus pushing me well behind the bulk of the under 10s. Good sign for the weekend.
