orienteering 1:47:00 [3] 5.72 mi (18:42 / mi)

Felt much more in control today, plus the woods seemed more like the nice open woods I remembered from the last time I was on this map. Also less muddy than yesterday. Probably lost time going around on the trail across beaver dam run to #2, but it seemed like a good opportunity to read ahead, and I wasn't sure how deep the water got if I were to take a more direct line. Had a little chuckle on the way to 3, as I was running past the obstacle course (in my France jersey), I was right behind a guy in a Belgian jersey and a girl wearing an OUSA top and there were 3 VERY confused looking Marines standing in the road. They just stared at the 3 of us like they thought they'd missed a memo about a NATO training exercise or something. Lost a bit of time to 6, probably just slow/overly cautious execution and some brief hesitation coming into the control (felt a little unsure what I was looking at- might have misinterpreted some of the contours. Hesitated again at 8 to make sure I was taking the correct trail junction, then pretty smooth until after the spectator control where I promptly ambled north of my line bashing through some of the junky woods.
Actually slightly bummed that there were no really long legs today, the course was nice, but felt like a classic with all the leg lengths fairly similar. Possibly cutting #3 would have added a nice long leg with some decent route choices, but that's just nitpicking.
