Not a brilliant day out there today, but I've barely been on a map this year, so I guess it was to be expected. On the bright side, my fitness never felt like a limiting factor today, so that was a nice feeling. Cautious to #1, but still felt unsure of exactly where I was until I saw Tori punch just ahead of me. She started a few minutes (4?) ahead of me, so seeing her was a nice surprise, but it immediately made me even more cautious- she's clearly already had trouble, I'd better be careful! Also the ditch was much smaller than I'd expected, and wasn't quite the nice handrail I'd hoped for. Drifted right and bounced off the trail/ride behind #2, then reasonably clean until 6. Made a good choice to run the trail/roads most of the way to 6, then as I ducked back into the woods, ended up smashing my knee on a log. Took a minute to walk that off, then thought I was further south than I was approaching 8. Tried to correct north, only to realize that I was coming up on #1 again, and I was in the right vicinity to begin with-doh! 9 nearly tripped me up, but checked the control codes and avoided an embarrassing mispunch, only to pick a poor line to 10, where I really was too far south this time. A bit of junky woods to fight through to the finish, but reasonably straight forward execution.
Never felt 100% in synch with the map, and really struggled to execute confidently. Need to spend more time on a map.
